With the dawn of a new year, fans are incredibly excited to welcome new anime series, as well as some old legendary anime that are finally coming back. The Winter 2026 anime season has now officially begun, and big series have started to drop in January. The likes of Jujutsu Kaisen and Fire Force are back, but they aren't the only ones. Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is also looking to make a major comeback. Having begun in 2023, Frieren fans said goodbye to their series in 2024. Now, after a long wait, the anime is finally returning this week.
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End - Strongest Characters, Ranked
In Frieren: Beyond Journey's End's world of magic and creatures of all kinds, these individuals have the greatest might.
On January 16, 2026, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End season 2 will finally begin. Frieren Season 2 episode 1 is highly anticipated, and it goes without saying that fans are eagerly awaiting its release. Sadly, Frieren season 2 will only run for 10 episodes, which shocked many. That should still be enough to cover the long-anticipated Northern Travels and Divine Revolte Arcs. Fans are excited to see their favorite elf returning and her journey moving forward.
Frieren Season 2 Will Begin This Week
- Episode 1 To Be Released On January 16, 2026
- 11PM Japan Standard Time Release
In 2023 and 2024, one of the biggest anime series, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, released its very first anime season. Frieren was an immediate hit, and it garnered great reviews from fans all around the world. The anime proved to be popular both in Japan and overseas.
Since Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End ended in 2024, all fans have been waiting for its return with Season 2. And now, this return is closer than ever.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 is kickstarting with its first episode on January 16, 2026. This episode will be released at 11PM Japan Standard Time. For fans watching from the US, Frieren Season 2 Episode 1 will be released on the same day, 16 January, but very early morning, at 6AM PST.
Frieren Season 2 Will Run For 10 Episodes
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End season 1 was far from a short anime season. While the average anime season gets 24 episodes, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 1 got 28. With so many episodes, the season ran for over 6 months.
Sadly, Frieren Season 2 is set to be a lot shorter. It’s been reported that the upcoming season of the anime is only going to run for 10 episodes. This means fans should expect a 10-week run from the anime, which is a bit over 2 months. This run is extremely short, as even short anime seasons typically get 12 episodes.
Frieren: 13 Strongest Mages, Ranked
The world of magic in Frieren is dominated by these individuals who in different ways outmatch their opponents.
However, this makes sense considering how fast the anime is catching up with the manga. The manga has slowed down considerably due to the health issues of the creators. Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End can only realistically now get one more anime season after Season 2 before having to go on a hiatus, awaiting more content from the manga.
Frieren Season 2 Could Cover The Northern Travels and Divine Revolte Arcs
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 1 was exciting, and it covered quite a few arcs over its 28-episode run. Season 1 adapted the first 60 chapters of the manga, and fans saw Beyond Journey's End Arc, Aura the Guillotine Arc, Travels to Äußerst Arc, and First-Class Mage Exam Arc brought to life with stunning animation and direction from MAPPA.
For Frieren Season 2, the arcs that will be adapted haven't been confirmed yet. However, the series could see the Continued Northern Travels and Divine Revolte Arcs adapted over the span of its 10-episode run.
It’s even possible for a few chapters of the Golden Land Arc to be adapted as well, but the full adaptation will have to happen in Frieren Season 3. Frieren Season 2 will most likely end around chapter 80.
