The last few years have been amazing for anime series. Many new anime, such as Dandadan, Solo Leveling, and The Apothecary Diaries, premiered and were incredible in their own right. The greatest, however, is an anime known as Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. This insane anime by Madhouse has a rating of 9.3 on MAL, making it the number 1 highest-rated anime on the website.
Solo Leveling May Have Won Anime Of The Year, But Frieren Director Explains Why His Series Is Better
Solo Leveling is a huge hit, but one director has a complaint about mainstream series overseas.
Frieren could definitely be called the best anime of the 2020s, with its incredible animation and story. But despite all that, it failed to secure its title of anime of the year, something fans were quite unhappy with.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Has an Insane 9.3 MAL Rating
- It Is The Number 1 Anime on MAL
- A Fan Favorite Series For a Reason
MyAnimeList, shortened to MAL, is one of the very biggest anime websites, especially when it comes to ratings. Many fans take their series’ ratings there very seriously. Several big anime series have held the number one spot on MAL, and this includes series like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Fullmetal Alchemist (2003), Death Note, including many more.
New Hit Series Recommended By Frieren Herself Officially Gets A Release Date
A series Frieren recommended blew up, with an English release upcoming.
The current number one holder, however, is none other than Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, with an insane score of 9.3. Frieren took this spot from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, an anime that held this spot for over a decade. Frieren beating Fullmetal Alchemist was a monumental event in the anime community. Since then, almost two years ago, Frieren has held this spot, and it doesn’t seem like anyone is coming for its title anytime soon. It might be quite a few years until fans see a new series take the number 1 MAL placement.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Didn’t Win Anime of the Year, But it Definitely Deserved It
Frieren Is Superior to Anime like Solo Leveling
Despite Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End having such a monumental win on MAL, it still failed to win the title of Anime of the Year, which is the most prestigious award at the Crunchyroll Awards. Instead, that spot was taken by Solo Leveling, an anime that doesn’t even break into the top 300 on MAL.
Many fans believe this win for Solo Leveling was unfair and that a series like that doesn’t deserve to be Anime of the Year. The awards were even more unfair as they happened around the same time Solo Leveling got a second season, skewing the perception of viewers. Meanwhile, at the time of the awards, Frieren had ended a year before.
Hopefully, this can be rectified for the Frieren series with its second season, when that drops. If the second season is anywhere near the level and quality of the first one, fans will be satisfied.
The Frieren manga was on hiatus, but the series recently returned with a new chapter, marking the end of the break. Fans can read the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga online on Viz Media. Meanwhile, when it comes to the anime, fans can find season 1 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End with all its episodes available to watch on Crunchyroll while awaiting season 2.
