Summary

  • Frostpunk 2 PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports are launching Summer 2025.
  • A major content update is coming on May 8, 2025.
  • The Spectrum DLC in Autumn 2025.

Frostpunk 2 developer 11 Bit Studios has revealed that the city-building game's PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports are scheduled for Summer 2025. Available only on PC at present, Frostpunk 2 originally launched to largely positive reviews on September 20, 2024.

Although first announced for a multi-platform 2024 launch, the console versions of Frostpunk 2 were eventually delayed right before its PC release. Back then, the devs at 11 Bit Studios shared that the PlayStation and Xbox ports would roll out in the following year, sandwiched between the respective arrivals of the game's major content update and the Spectrum DLC—the first of its three planned expansions. After months of anticipation, Frostpunk 2's console release window was recently narrowed down, thanks to the city builder's updated roadmap. In addition to that, the timeframes for certain other significant releases coming to the game, ranging from a sizable update to forthcoming DLCs, were also shared.

Whiteouts are massive blizzards that can ruin a player's hard work and end a Frostpunk 2 campaign unless they prepare by taking these steps.

On Twitter, Frostpunk 2 devs showed their 2025 roadmap for the game, confirming the much-awaited console ports' Summer 2025 window. They also announced that the next major content update for the simulation title is set to land on May 8, 2025, for free. Moreover, the release window for the Spectrum DLC was also tied down to Autumn 2025. On the other hand, the second DLC, Aurora, and its untitled follow-up expansion were revealed to still be on track for rollout later in 2025 and in 2026, respectively.

In its announcement, 11 Bit Studios also shed light on some interesting details regarding the future of Frostpunk 2. About the impending major content drop, it shared that the update will "adjust" the city's management as an "homage" to the order brought about by the first New Londoners. Moving on, the post noted that the first DLC would let the player learn more about the city residents in "more ways than one." Importantly, Spring 2025 was highlighted as a period that would bring "significant developments" for Frostpunk 2 players, with chances of something arriving in the game specifically on April 24, the seventh anniversary of 2018's Frostpunk.

While Frostpunk 2 making its entire budget back within three days of launch marked a high, it was soon followed by a low for 11 Bit Studios, which involved the scrapping of a different in-development game. In December 2024, two months after the Frostpunk sequel's launch, the Poland-based studio shared that Project 8, a console-oriented title, was canceled due to a management decision, marking the end of a project which had been in the works for six years. As the team looks to pick itself back up, it will hope that the forthcoming expansions of Frostpunk 2 and its next release, The Alters, fare well and give a boost to its 2025 performance.
