Goods are a resource in Frostpunk 2, and players must maintain a surplus if they want to keep their City's Crime in check and earn maximum Heatstamps. While it is not extremely difficult to maintain a surplus at low Populations, fans will need to put some effort toward increasing their Goods output as their City's Population grows. Fortunately, there are several ways to earn more Goods in Frostpunk 2, and this guide is here to detail the options that players can pursue.

Players can get a quick look at their City's current Goods demand and output by hovering over the pot icon at the top of the screen.

Frostpunk 2: How to Increase Goods Output

Switch Industrial Districts to Goods Production

By default, Industrial Districts produce Prefabs when they are built, and players must manually switch them to Goods production if they want them to create Goods instead. To perform that action, fans of city-builders must simply select an established Industrial District and then click the pot icon on the left side of the information pane that appears. While players may not want to immediately switch all their established Industrial Districts to Goods production, particularly if they are providing all their Prefabs, at least some need to be dedicated to the task.

Build More Industrial Districts

Building more Industrial Districts is a great way to earn more Goods, as each one that is established will immediately increase Goods output by 25. Again, strategy game fans must switch their newly-built Industrial Districts to Goods production if they are intended to create that resource.

Expand Industrial Districts

As previously noted, Industrial Districts that are set to Goods production have an initial output of 25 Goods. Frostpunk 2 players can increase that output to 30 Goods by selecting an Industrial District, clicking the arrows icon at the bottom of the information pane that appears, and expanding the district into three adjacent tiles.

Build Factories in Industrial Districts

Factories are Buildings that players can construct after researching certain nodes in the Idea Tree's Resources section, and several of them increase Goods output when established in an Industrial District. More specifically, the "Factories" node contains ideas that make it possible to create Salvaging Factories and Mechanical Factories, while the "Goods Factory" node contains ideas that make it possible to create Refurbishing Goods Factories and Calibrated Goods Factories. Building any of those Factories in an Industrial District will increase its Goods output and help maintain a surplus.

To note, the aforementioned Factories will generate Goods even if the Industrial Districts in which they are built are set to Prefab production. This makes it possible for a single Industrial District to create Goods and Prefabs simultaneously. To concretize this idea with an example, an Industrial District that is set to Prefab production and has a Calibrated Goods Factory will create 10 Prefabs per week (the Industrial District's base rate) and 60 Goods (the Calibrated Goods Factory's output).

While it is important to build Factories, players should know that there are some drawbacks associated with this action. Specifically, Factories increase Heat demand in Frostpunk 2 and increase either Disease or Squalor. Fortunately, there are many ways to combat these city problems .

Increase Production Efficiency

Players can earn additional resources of all types, including Goods, by increasing their Production Efficiency. Here are several ways to raise Production Efficiency, and fans of post-apocalyptic games can see how it is impacting an Industrial District's Goods output by selecting the District, hovering over the pot icon under "Total Output" in the information pane that appears, and looking under "Base Modifiers":

  • Pass the Goods: "Mass-Produced Goods" Law. This Law can be found under Resources in the Survival section. Alternatively, players can pass the "Durable Goods" Law to decrease the demand for Goods.
  • Pass the Basic Necessities: "Paid Essentials" Law. This Law can be found under Welfare in the City section.
  • Research Heat Overclocking in the "Waste Heat Conversion" node. This node can be found at the top of Idea Tree's Resources section.
  • Research an idea in the "Rail Hub" node, and build a Rail Hub next to a Goods-producing Industrial District. This node can be found at the top of the Idea Tree's Hubs section.
  • Select a Goods-producing Industrial District and activate its "Emergency Shifts" ability.
