The Game Awards proved to be another wild night of surprises, from awards to game reveals. One thing is for sure: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 made out like a bandit. By winning nine awards, it broke new records and will surely be a boon for Sandfall Interactive going forward, which could be intimidating for the indie studio.
Upcoming Video Games Sequels We Never Thought Would Happen
Some game sequels that take so long to release that fans give up hope. That's exactly the case with these games, except they're set to launch soon.
Regardless of the big winners and losers, some fans only tuned in to watch the big announcements, and there were plenty. From actual new games to returning icons to updated information on previously announced titles, there was a lot to see. So, let’s go through the biggest AAA and indie news drops of the night and see how they will shape gaming in 2026 and beyond.
Divinity
The Nest Big RPG From Larian Studios
- Developer: Larian Studios
- Publisher: Larian Studios
- Release Date: TBA
The big tease leading up to The Game Awards was a big statue seen in the middle of the desert, which turned out to be for Divinity, the new upcoming title in the long-running series that Larian Studios established in 2002.
The last game, Divinity: Original Sin 2, was released in 2017, so it has been some time. In between, of course, Larian Studios put out Baldur's Gate 3 in 2023, and the less said about that phenomenon, the better. The trailer shown was CG only, but it looks as grim as a Diablo game, and fans cannot wait.
Resident Evil Requiem
Leon Gets In!
Resident Evil Requiem

- February 27, 2026
Resident Evil Requiem is technically old news, but there was a mic drop moment shown at The Game Wards: Leon S. Kennedy is in it. Players will be able to play the new character, Grace, which will fall more in line with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in terms of gameplay, whereas Leon’s portion of the campaign will be more traditional.
He can be seen shooting in the trailer and even countering an enemy with a chainsaw. Resident Evil Requiem’s hype was big before, but after Leon’s face appeared, it’s safe to say preorders are going to skyrocket now.
Star Wars: Fate Of The Old Republic
It’s Not A Remake
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic
- Developer(s)
- Arcanaut Studios
In 2021, a remake for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was announced, which was quietly put on hiatus soon after, disappointing many. Leading up to The Game Awards, there were rumors that the sequel, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords, was being remade instead, or that the remake of the original was back on track.
Both rumors were wrong as there is a new action RPG in the works called Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic. The CG trailer revealed next to nothing, but on the positive side, Casey Hudson will be back to direct it, who also directed Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect trilogy. Also, it’s worth mentioning that another Star Wars game was announced, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, which will be a racer.
Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis

- 2026
It was a known factor that the fate of the Tomb Raider franchise would be revealed at The Game Awards, but it was still a surprise. First, Tomb Raider Catalyst was teased as a 2027 game, which didn’t reveal much, but that wasn’t the most interesting tidbit.
Big Upcoming Games All About Magic
Hocus, pocus, and focus on these upcoming games that are all about their creative magic systems, be it in co-op or single-player.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis was the second game announced, which is going to be a remake of the original 1996 game, and it’s coming out in 2026. While the trailer was equally brief, there did appear to be gameplay, including swinging on poles and shooting at a dinosaur. Also, while it was not shown, Amazon is working on a live-action show, so it’s safe to say that Lara Croft will be back in a big way between 2026 and 2027.
Mega Man: Dual Override
Super Fighting Robot
- Developer: Capcom
- Publisher: Capcom
- Release Date: 2007
At The Game Awards in 2024, there was an orchestral intro to tease a sequel to Okami. The same tactic was used again for Mega Man: Dual Override, but this time, actual gameplay footage was shown. Mega Man 11 was released in 2018, so it has been a long time since a classic Mega Man title was released.
That said, there was nothing wow-inducing about the trailer other than the fact that Capcom was bringing back the Blue Bomber, which is always good news. With a name like Mega Man: Dual Override, there is surely something up the developer’s sleeves.
Control Resonant
Tagging In Dylan
Control Resonant

- 2026
- Genre(s)
- Action, RPG, Hack and Slash, Open-World
Control was released in 2019 and was a surprise hit from Remedy Entertainment, which was secretly tied to the Alan Wake universe. Afterward, the team released Alan Wake 2 in 2023, and in 2026, the next chapter will be told via Control Resonant.
Instead of Jesse Faden, players will control her brother, Dylan, in a melee-based action game set in a messed-up version of New York City. Between the art style, music, and gameplay, this looks like it will be one of the most anticipated action titles of 2026, easily.
Gang Of Dragon
Yakuza With Guns
Gang of Dragon

- Nagoshi Studio
Toshihiro Nagoshi is a legendary developer who worked on a number of titles for Sega, including the Yakuza franchise. Nagoshi left Sega in 2021, and fans have been wondering what he has been up to ever since. Now they have their answer: Gang of Dragon. Based on the trailer and screenshots out there, it looks like a more Grand Theft Auto-Influenced Yakuza game.
It will star Ma Dong-seok, who most may know from Eternals as Gilgamesh, or Train to Busan's Sang-hwa. There is brawling, but shooting will be a big part of the gameplay too, and maybe even driving, as there is a screenshot of car customization out there. That could be what sets Gang of Dragon apart from Yakuza.
Bradley The Badger Announced
Breaking The Fourth Wall
- Developer: Day 4 Night
- Publisher: Day 4 Night
- Release Date: TBA
Bradley the Badger is not a AAA game, but it looks like one of the most unique experiences happening in the indie scene. Players will assume control of Bradley, a badger who has been in games before, probably being this universe’s version of Mario. Bradley soon discovers he is playing inside a game that is currently being developed, and he also gains control of the development tools.
Big Upcoming Games All About Player Creativity
We can’t wait to get weird and share some unique content with these upcoming immersive games that really prioritize player creativity.
It looks like a wild parody with plenty of gameplay variety from attacking enemies with bloody combat to rolling up a wall as a trash can. Some of the games parodied include Bloodborne, Cyberpunk 2077, and The Last of Us. The coolest part is that Evan Peters, who most people probably know from American Horror Story, will voice Bradley, and there will be live-action segments too.
Orbitals
Anime Star Fox
- Developer: Shapefarm
- Publisher: Kepler Interactive
- Release Date: 2026
The Switch 2 didn’t have a huge presence at The Game Awards, but there is an exclusive game coming to the platform in 2026 called Orbitals. Like Split Fiction and It Takes Two, Orbitals will be a co-op adventure with one big twist: its anime aesthetic.
Visually, it looks like an anime from the 80s, and it could not look any cooler. While the developer, Shapefarm, is unknown, Kepler Interactive will be publishing it, which also published Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Orbitals could also become a GOTY winner based on Kepler Interactive’s recent track record.
Ontos
Waiting For BioShock
- Developer: Frictional Games
- Publisher: Frictional Games
- Release Date: 2026
Finally, Ontos is being developed by Frictional Games, who most may know from Soma or the Amnesia series. Fans of theirs know Frictional Games can create atmospheric horror like no other, and Ontos looks no different.
That said, the trailer shown did have BioShock vibes as well, and there was a bit more action than normal. Since the new BioShock hasn’t been shown yet and Judas, another spiritual successor, has an unknown fate, Ontos could beat both games to the punch in 2026.
Upcoming Action RPGs With Combo Systems
Pick up your swords, spears, whips, and everything in-between for these upcoming combo-breaking RPGs.
