Martin confirmed last year that Game of Thrones sequels were in active development, Jon Snow's actor, Kit Harrington, has recently shut down any chance of Jon Snow returning to the GoT universe. Originally revealed in 2022 by James Hibberd, author of Fire Cannot Kill the Dragon and a journalist for The Hollywood Reporter who meticulously covered Game of Thrones' production, a sequel series Snow starring Jon Snow after the end of Game of Thrones Season 8 was in active development with HBO.

Given his recent voice work, Variety asked Harrington if he'd be interested in reprising Jon Snow for a remake of the A Song of Ice and Fire audiobooks, previously narrated by the late, legendary Roy Dotrice. Harrington responded, "No, god no. I don’t wanna go anywhere near [Game of Thrones]. I spent 10 years [playing Jon Snow]. Thanks, I’m alright."

It's not hard to see why Kit Harrington wouldn't want to come back to Game of Thrones' universe. By all accounts, playing Jon Snow was beyond stressful for Harrington. The Game of Thrones star told Variety in 2019, "My darkest period was when the show seemed to become so much about Jon, when he died and came back... I really didn’t like the focus of the whole show coming onto Jon."

Snow being shelved may honestly be a blessing in disguise for Harrington, and the best thing he needs for his emotional & mental health. Jon Snow's story has also been told, and he has one of Game of Thrones Season 8's only positive endings: going back to the only place in his life where he felt truly free and alive. Bringing back Jon Snow, let alone in a spin-off all about him, could risk hurting the series' already iffy legacy. Some snow is best left unshoveled.
