It wouldn't be Westeros without some kind of drama going on, but the delay to HBO’s next Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, has some fans worried about its unexpected setback, especially since Season 1 is reportedly undergoing reshoots. It's already been almost a year since House of the Dragon season two ended, leaving a massive dragon-shaped hole in the hearts of George R.R. Martin fans, but thankfully, there's even more Game of Thrones' fantasy lore on the horizon.
Based on Martin's Dunk and Egg books, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will be adapted from Martin's first novella, The Hedge Knight. Set in the same world as A Song of Ice and Fire, the Dunk and Egg fables were first published in 1998 and are prequels to George R.R. Martin's main books. The story revolves around the adventures of the hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall, who would later become a legendary member of the Kingsguard, and his squire Egg, who would become King Aegon V Targaryen of Westeros. Graphic novels of three Dunk and Egg stories have also since been published, with Martin still looking to add more narratives to the adventures of the pair.
How To Watch Game of Thrones And House of the Dragon In Correct Order
Is there an ideal order to watch Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon?
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Is Undergoing Reshoots
According to the Twitter fan account, House the Dragons, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is currently in the process of reshooting in Belfast, Northern Ireland, which is also the original home base of the Game of Thrones franchise. Even though reshoots are a fairly common practice with companies in charge of TV shows and movies, due to the prequel's delay, eager fans are concerned that this could spell trouble for the fantasy series before it even begins. In the comments section, one GoT fan asked, "What could've gone wrong that they suddenly needed to do reshoots??", as another stated, "This is funny. Not in a good way."
However, right now at least, there doesn't seem to be much evidence to suggest that there is any real concern for season one of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and they have likely just delayed its release so they can adjust some minor elements like fine-tuning sets, creative adjustments to environments for CGI, or, which is a likelier option, they are setting up some changes for a second season. Since Martin has had a lot of praise for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms already and loved what he saw after visiting the set in Belfast last year, it's unlikely that anything sinister is going on, and a straightforward delay for some reshoots seems to be the most valid reason.
Although there isn't a release date just yet, Warner Bros. Discovery officially announced that 2026 is the new release window in place for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. HBO's content chairman, Casey Bloys, also revealed that the series would arrive in the "winter" season of 2026, which is likely the best time for a Game of Thrones spin-off.
