Games With The Best Game Of Thrones Mods

Game of Thrones took the world by storm over a decade ago and redefined the fantasy genre. Based upon George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire book series, the TV show and subsequent franchise explore the realm of Westeros and beyond in a gritty medieval fantasy world.

Despite the success of the books and shows, which have a seemingly perfect world for adaptation, Game of Thrones games are a rarity, and none have yet achieved tremendous success. For this reason and the fact that fans can't get enough, many Game of Thrones mods have been created for other fitting games. Best of all are total conversion mods that bring the world to life and often feel like complete games in their own right.

There are also plenty of older mods for games that have been out for a long time, and yet the best Game of Thrones mods remain great, having been perfected over the years. Some of the best GOT mods, such as CK3: AGOT, also receive regular updates, ensuring that fans of the franchise can return to such mods for different experiences.

Manor Lords

The Game of Thrones Coat of Arms mod for Manor Lords may not be the biggest, but it is nonetheless a nice addition for those who love the sigils from Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. This is because it allows players to choose from 10 popular House sigils to be permanently displayed at the top of the screen. For those who are unaware, Manor Lords is a medieval city-building game with RTS features, where players start by building a small village that can expand into a thriving town connected by trade to their other settlements.

Just like the lands of the Seven Kingdoms, however, trouble and war are constantly brewing in Manor Lords. This means that players will need to call their men to war, and once their banners have been raised, they will notice that their newly installed Game of Thrones sigil is not only present in the top right corner but also proudly displayed on every banner, fluttering in the wind.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the biggest names in the gaming world, and Game of Thrones is easily one of the most well-known TV shows. In the Game of Thrones Pack for GTA 5, these two goliaths collide for hilarious results, with players able to take on the roles of Tyrion Lannister or Daenerys Targaryen.

If players have ever wanted to parachute out of a helicopter as the Imp of Casterly Rock onto the warm sands of Vespucci Beach, then this is the mod for them, and upon landing, Tyrion can whip out a rocket launcher in place of his trusty crossbow. More incredible, however, is the ability to ride Drogon as Daenerys, in a game where players are more accustomed to flying around in fighter jets than on dragon back.

Blade & Sorcery is a VR-only game that uses a physics-based combat system to allow players to live out their medieval fantasy dreams. This makes it perfect for Game of Thrones mods, of which the game boasts plenty. For example, players can download two great map mods that will see them test their skills at Castle Black or inside Daznak's Pit.

There are also weapon mods available that allow players to wield iconic swords, such as Jon Snow's Longclaw. Lastly, there are also mods for armor sets from Game of Thrones, including those that are worn by the Kingsguard, the Night's Watch, as well as individuals such as Robb Stark and the Hound. By combining these mods, players can fully reenact their favorite scenes.

Despite its age, Total War: Medieval 2 remains a great strategy game, allowing players to relive iconic battles from the Middle Ages, such as the Battle of Agincourt. Additionally, with the help of the Westeros: Total War mod, players can also recreate battles that took place in Westeros.

The mod features dozens of customized units with instantly recognizable sigils proudly flying from banners or painted onto shields. Outside of the battles for which the Total War series is best known, players can also enjoy trying to conquer all seven kingdoms and more. While this mod uses the books as its main source of inspiration, there is a sub-mod called Westeros: Age of Petty Kings, which incorporates more elements from the show. Furthermore, for those who prefer the quality of more modern games, there is another Game of Thrones mod on this list for a different Total War game.

Age Of Empires 2: HD Edition

The Age of Empires franchise was one of the original driving forces for the strategy genre, with players building up their civilizations from scratch in real time. As Age of Empires 2 is set in the Middle Ages, it makes it the best of the bunch for a Game of Thrones mod, and this idea has been released with Age of Thrones.

This mod adds 19 playable civilizations from the world of A Song of Ice and Fire, with most of the factions having their own unit types decked out in the colors of the most prominent Houses from Westeros. Some factions even have their own buildings, as well as technologies and heroes, which slightly alter the gameplay. Beyond iconic Houses, players can also take on the role of the Night's Watch, the Brotherhood Without Banners, or even a Dothraki Khalasar.

Mount & Blade: Warband

Just like its successor, the original Mount & Blade: Warband also features its own Game of Thrones mod, known as A Clash of Kings, which is the title of the second book, the setting for the mod.

This colossal total conversion mod features a map that covers all of Westeros and part of Essos, and inhabiting these lands are over 20 factions, lords and ladies, mercenaries, and other ruthless Game of Thrones characters. With over 1000 unique objects, custom quests, storylines, and events, this is one of the most complete Game of Thrones mods for fans to enjoy. It is also one that players can enjoy with their friends.

7 CK2: AGOT

Crusader Kings 2

While the Game of Thrones mod for Crusader Kings 2 is not as good as its successor for Crusader Kings 3, CK2 AGOT is still a great experience and even has some benefits. The first of these is that, while CK2 no longer sits at the top of the list of best grand strategy games of all time, it is now free-to-play, meaning that anyone with a PC can enjoy the mod.
