With so many temples in the Zelda franchise being so iconic and memorable, The Shadow Temple exceeds above all else when it comes to sheer creepiness alone.

The theme for this dungeon is a spine-chilling track that perfectly complements the design of the dungeon. Not only is it filled with traps and dungeon cells with equipment fit for torture, but the temple also houses an array of monstrous creatures that are sure to be met along the way. Some of these enemies, like the DeadHand, can bring back nostalgic memories of horror, as players reflect on earlier days when they wanted to turn off their screens, scream, and get out of the dungeon as soon as they could.

Players determined enough to find a stronghold in their world and make it to The End will find that it is one of the eeriest locations in the game. Those who find the strength to take down the Ender Dragon will find that the location has much more to offer than just a final boss battle.

Beyond one of the teleporters that appears after the dragon's defeat, players can enter with an ender pearl to discover the Outer End. It is here where players can explore a vast and eerie plain, surrounded by hundreds of Endermen and chorus fruit trees. With one of the longest Minecraft soundtracks to complement, the seemingly empty world that welcomes players in The End is ready to be explored fully. Players will find themselves bridging across empty voids, or stumbling across cities that house highly valuable loot. The End is an unpredictably strange place, and unless players have an Elytra and can take care of its durability, they should take each step going forward with extreme caution.

Found in the Altus Plateau, Dominula, The Windmill Village, has one of the most unsettling atmospheres in all of Soulsborne. Players who make their way up through the main path in the village will note dozens of dancing, laughing women, all of whom will ignore the player unless attacked.

Their laughter makes for an uncomfortable atmosphere, as the villagers worship the Godskin Apostle who resides at the peak of the town. These villagers lure unsuspecting men and women into the village before they skin their bodies and offer them up to the Apostle.

The Hospital, which players will be forced to explore towards the middle of the game, is nothing short of terrifying. As players initially head into this area, the mannequins in the dark are telling enough of the impending danger.

Armed with a handheld torch and a bucketful of courage, players must make their way through the derelict building to progress. Doing so is not as straightforward as one would imagine, as when in darkness the mannequins are full of life and will pursue the player. Shine the torch at them to make them freeze, or risk being stolen away by the dark forever.

Referred to frequently as the surface, the location is swarming with deadly monsters, and there's a reason people are afraid to head out there.

Deep at the bottom of the Europan Sea lies the Abyss, a place of complete darkness that no submarine should stay for too long. At a depth of 4,000 meters and even deeper, for players who have not yet upgraded their diving gear, heading outside is certain death.

Where the Abyss holds an abundance of highly valuable ores that can be used to make incredibly powerful weapons and ammo, it also houses some of the most terrifying enemies in the game. All of these enormous monsters that lurk in the abyss are capable of tearing through hulls and generally making the player's life hell, so it is much advised to be well-prepared when heading there, as for many it will become a final resting place.

"Gary?" Is a phrase that will haunt many avid Fallout fans, and is a quote that is one of the creepiest across all the Fallout games. Found in Vault 108, the Garys that roam the corridors are the result of a cloning experimentation gone wrong, where they became aggressive and incredibly hostile, taking over the Vault indefinitely.

It is one of the strangest areas in the game, and players will find their eyebrows raising as they venture down a quiet hallway, before one of the many clones shouts "Garyyyyyyyy" in an attempt to seek and hunt the player down. Players will feel uncomfortable as they roam the corridors, fearful of how many of them still try to seek them out, so bring enough firepower to take the Garys down for good.

Amnesia's newest installment takes horror to a whole new level. Players must figure out a way to exit the fallen bunker, all while gathering the items required to successfully blow up the blocked exit and make an escape.

Not all is as it seems though, as a creature prowls in search of blood. This creature has violently murdered the player's comrades, so the player is left alone against it. Armed with a trusty light source that charges at the expense of a loud, cranking handle, players can play as slowly or as chaotic as they want, provided that they can find a way out before being dragged away into the dark.

Inside is a widely praised title popular for its bizarre world and chilling atmosphere. Players who explore the world of Inside will be enthralled from start to finish, as they solve puzzles and digest the complexity of the world around them.

One of the most unusual locations in the game, The Factory, sees the players fall through a wooden plank, whereby they must react quickly to their befallen circumstances. Players must copy the moves displayed by the line of mind-controlled slaves before them while being monitored by a drone with a large searchlight. It is here where players must sink or swim, adapting in accordance with the mindless drones around them just to survive. While the situation is uncomfortably eerie at points, making it through without initially being detected is a satisfying feeling.
