GameStop has issued a light-hearted response to gamers after reports that a store in New York had accidentally damaged a batch of Nintendo Switch 2 screens with staplers. The story quickly went viral after some new disgruntled Nintendo Switch 2 owners showcased their damaged screens online, but a statement from GameStop now claims that the issue has been addressed, refunds offered, and staplers confiscated.

After eight years of waiting, Nintendo fans finally got their hands on a brand-new console this week. Unfortunately, some gamers are now having to go through the hassle of getting replacement consoles as a GameStop in New York has accidentally damaged a batch of Nintendo Switch 2 screens. The unique mishap occurred when some employees began stapling customer receipts to the front of the Switch 2's box. However, Nintendo's somewhat bizarre placement of the console meant the only thing protecting the screen was the thin cardboard box itself. This meant that as soon as the employees stapled the receipt to the outside, it pierced straight through and left two puncture marks on the screen.

GameStop Addresses Broken Switch 2 Screens

It's unclear how many Nintendo Switch 2 consoles were damaged due to the mishap, but GameStop has now responded to the issue with a new statement on Twitter. The company says it has "addressed a unique case of staples damaging Switch 2 screens," which was isolated to just one store. GameStop goes on to state that replacement consoles have been offered to affected customers, before then joking that "staplers have been confiscated." While this will most certainly prevent any employees from stapling receipts to Switch 2 boxes again, plenty of other users have criticized Nintendo's console placement inside. For $450, fans expect more appropriate protection for their consoles.

While those who pre-ordered their new console from GameStop were met with this unfortunate surprise, Walmart surprised Nintendo Switch 2 customers in a much more positive way. Shortly after the console's release, fans took to social media to question why they had received a bottle of Coca-Cola and a tube of Pringles. Some believed they had just been blessed by the gods, but it turns out that Walmart wanted to surprise fans by giving away some free snacks with their console. The company took to Twitter to address the surprise, saying, "We don't play when it comes to release day."

While many are having a great time with their new consoles, there have been some teething problems. Fans were quick to discover that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has a game-breaking bug on the Nintendo Switch 2, as players reported that a match will immediately end if a Switch 1 and Switch 2 user play online together and one uses a Mii Fighter. Thankfully, Nintendo is aware of the issue, and a fix is in the works. In the meantime, the studio has advised players to avoid using Mii Fighters in online matches until a new update is deployed.
