Gears 5 is now available for those with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription and for people who bought the Ultimate Edition of the game, meaning that they're now free to run around chainsawing through the Swarm with their trusty Lancers. However, the first time players load up the game they'll have to suffer through Bootcamp, a drawn-out tutorial. Luckily, it's possible to quit Bootcamp - Gears 5 just doesn't make it super obvious.
The Bootcamp is a really slow start to an otherwise great game. It wouldn't be so bad if the banter between characters wasn't so bad. For those still tempted to partake in it, the first hour of the game does an equally good job of explaining the basic mechanics in a much faster way. It's still a stellar game though - in The Best War Games's Gears 5 review, it was complimented it for its gameplay and visual variety, both of which help make Gears 5 one of the best entries in the franchise.
How To Quit Bootcamp
The process to quit Bootcamp is actually pretty straightforward, though it may be worth playing through Bootcamp for those that have never played a Gears of War game before. To quit, players simply have to pause the game, return to the main menu, and select campaign or any other mode instead. It may seem simple, but Gears 5 doesn't really say that it's possible, and players could be forgiven for assuming that the game would just make them start Bootcamp over if they do decide to quit. It is also possible to repeat Bootcamp later on for those that feel they missed out on something.
After quitting - or completing - Bootcamp, players will be free to do whatever they want, whether it's Horde mode, or unlocking Terminator and jumping into a match. Luckily the game also packs in a lot more to do this time, so players should have plenty to keep themselves occupied with.
Gears 5 doesn't take too long to beat, so players shouldn't have too much of a journey to work through before they can invest most their time in the game's other modes, like Horde and Versus. Reviews have been very positive this time around too, so there should be something in there for just about everyone to enjoy.
Gears 5 is available now for Game Pass Ultimate Subscribers and Ultimate Edition owners.
