Gears of War: Reloaded didn't take long to reach 1 million players, bringing Xbox fans in once again and giving PlayStation gamers an opportunity to try out the game for the first time. Gears of War: Reloaded officially sets a very unfortunate milestone for the series on Steam.
Gears of War 2 Sees Renewed Interest
Gears of War 2 has seen a significant increase in player count on Xbox. Gears of War: Reloaded players seem to be checking out the second game in the series, with interest increasing over the two weeks since the remaster's release. According to Game Trends (via TrueAchievements), the player count on Xbox for Gears of War 2 is up by 126.8%. Interest and player counts for the franchise on Xbox overall are up, likely indicating that many players who completed Gears of War: Reloaded had a positive enough experience to want to check out more games.
Another element that's likely helping Gears of War: Reloaded and Gears of War 2 to see significant player counts is their inclusion with Xbox Game Pass. In fact, the full series is currently available on Game Pass, so players can check out the entire franchise without paying extra, which is always enticing. This may very well funnel fans straight into Gears of War: E-Day, the upcoming 2026 prequel, which will also be available on Game Pass starting on day one.
Xbox Game Pass playing a role in the game's success on the platform could also be part of why Gears of War: Reloaded isn't seeing as much success on PlayStation. A recent report indicated that PlayStation had only moved a little over a quarter of a million downloads, which is about 18% of the downloads the game has experienced across all platforms. It's also likely that long-time Xbox fans who have stuck with the console family over the years are eager to return to one of the console's flagship franchises, whereas strictly Sony gamers may be more hesitant as newcomers to the entire series. In any case, this new increase in Xbox Gears of War players will likely be a boon once E-Day launches.
