This is a Press Release Brought to you by GamingWire
Every generation has its preference for where they go to socialize. For many decades, a popular spot for socialization has been the pub. For the longest time, the pub was the perfect place to have a weekly get-together, buy a few pints, and catch up with your found family. But as the cost of living goes up astronomically across the board, young men are starting to look for other ways to socialize that don't put additional financial strain on them.
During the pandemic, online gaming provided many young people with the opportunity to stay in touch and socialize in a virtual world. Now, online gaming has become a much more attractive alternative to Gen Z than going out to the pub for a night of drinking pint after pint.

Gen Z is Putting Down the Glass and Picking Up the Controller
A new study released by Logitech G, conducted by independent research firm Antenna Insights, has unearthed a dramatic cultural shift: the majority (61%) of Gen Z Australian men (18-24 years old) now prefer connecting with their friends through online gaming rather than hitting the local pub or bar.
Logitech G’s study, which surveyed over 1,500 Australians aged 18-45, also discovered that nearly half (49%) of all 18-24-year-old respondents favor a video gaming night in with their friends over going out to the pub. On a broader scale, the same can be said for one-third (34%) of all 18-45-year-olds.
Some of the reasons for their choices were as follows. 54% of participants said that affordability was the biggest factor for why they preferred online gaming with their friends, while 42% said they preferred it for the convenience it provides. Finally, 47% said that they found it far more relaxing than going to a noisy pub.
It makes sense that affordability is such a strong factor for these men, as it isn't just the cost of drinks that is going up. Even the cost of gas for cars or fees for public transport are going up with inflation. It is getting to the point where it is easier and more cost-effective to just stay in, heat up some leftovers, and boot up your console or PC.
Cutting down on costs isn't the only benefit to playing online games with your friends. The study revealed that those who play online games with their friends spend more time socializing with their friends than those who don't (nearly four additional hours of socializing, to be exact). Not only that, but the study shows that 73% of gamers rely on online gaming to stay in touch with long-distance friends and maintain strong relationships with them.
Once, gaming was seen as a socially unacceptable pastime, but nowadays, it is proving to be one of the most social things you can do with your friends. You aren't quietly watching a movie in a dark theater, and you don't have to yell over obnoxiously loud music to hear each other. Online gaming gives you much more time to catch up, develop inside jokes, and have enriched social lives without spending more money.
