Genshin Impact has officially unveiled Skirk as its 100th character, with the 5-Star Cryo Sword set to join the playable cast in Version 5.7. At launch, Genshin Impact only had 22 playable characters. Since then, that number has more than quadrupled, as new fan favorites emerged over the years. However, as more characters were added to the roster, it became harder for HoYoverse to maintain a fair and balanced banner schedule.
While the Chronicled Banner in Genshin Impact solved some of the issues, it also had the side effect of making Event Banners increasingly stacked. This trend is arguably the most apparent when it comes to Skirk, as her best teammates have all been scheduled around her debut banner in Version 5.7. For example, Escoffier is by far and away her best healer, and Skirk fans are strongly advised to obtain the renowned Fontanian chef in the first half of Version 5.6.
Rumor: Genshin Impact Leak Teases New Character for Version 5.8
A recent leak in the Genshin Impact community teases a new 5-star character, set to join the playable roster in Version 5.8 as Natlan's final unit.
As for Skirk herself, Genshin Impact introduced her with a drip-marketing post on Reddit, revealing that the disciple of Surtalogi would feature in the first half of Version 5.7 as a 5-Star Cryo Sword character. However, according to the beta servers for Version 5.7, the upcoming patch will also have Shenhe on the Event Banners in the second half. Much like Escoffier in Genshin Impact, Shenhe is one of Skirk's most desired teammates, but rumors point towards a better option coming in Version 5.8.

Genshin Impact players were initially introduced to Skirk during Fontaine's Archon Quest, but she has been teased via her student, Tartaglia, since Version 1.1. Unlike other characters, Skirk wields the power of the Abyss to mimic one of the seven Elements of Teyvat. As a Cryo hypercarry, she is intended to be the centerpiece of a Freeze team, one ideally comprised of Furina, Escoffier, and either Shenhe or Yelan. This makes Skirk in Genshin Impact one of the most expensive characters to invest in, but her ability kit is certainly rewarding enough to justify the investment.
It ultimately will come down to the number of Primogems each player managed to save prior to Escoffier's launch in Version 5.6. To survive the gauntlet of Event Banners themed around Skirk's best team, fans should be prepared to spend 540 Intertwined Wishes in a worst-case scenario (assuming a team core of Escoffier, Skirk, and Shenhe). However, free-to-play accounts will only be able to obtain 115 Intertwined Wishes within that time span, making Primogems in Genshin Impact incredibly precious. It's important to keep in mind that players don't need to immediately pursue Skirk's teammates, and that they can always pick them up on a rerun. Version 5.7 is set to launch on June 18, 2025.
