Summary
- Genshin Impact 5.1 lacks English voice lines due to ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike affecting key scenes.
- Some playable characters muted in important scenes of the latest Archon Quest.
- English-dubbed version may face voice line issues in the upcoming Sumeru flagship event.
Genshin Impact 5.1 has a major drawback for fans who play the English-dubbed version, as some characters are muted in certain scenes of the latest Archon Quest. Genshin Impact also has a flagship event coming up sometime in October, and players' gameplay experience might also be affected then.
During the recent Genshin Impact Version 5.1 livestream, players noticed how the Japanese, Korean, and Chinese transmissions followed the game's tradition of having its main characters' voice actors as hosts. However, for the English livestream, the event was unexpectedly hosted by two members of HoYoverse's localization team. Although HoYoverse did not disclose the reason for this decision, fans attributed it to several video game voice actors having gone on strike in the past months. Now, it seems the strike has affected Genshin Impact's 5.1 update as well, which has put some players at a disadvantage when playing the main storyline.
Genshin Impact's Character Outfits Have Some Catching Up to Do
Genshin Impact has a long way to go before every playable character in the game has an alternative outfit, but it’s never too late to catch up.
As stated in Genshin Impact's official patch notes, the game's 5.1 update lacks some English voice lines. "Due to recording arrangements, some content in Version 5.1 does not have English voice-overs. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused," reads HoYoverse's statement. Players have already noticed that popular characters Kachina, Kinich, and Ajaw are muted in certain scenes of the latest Archon Quest, despite playing important roles in the story. HoYoverse has not given a further explanation on the matter, but it is likely related to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike and how voice actors are protesting against the use of AI in video games. Though the strike has gone on for months now, previous Genshin Impact updates have not been as affected as the current one.
Genshin Impact Version 5.1 Has Missing English Voice Lines
On the Genshin Impact Reddit forum, many players have shared their support for the voice actors protesting AI and demanding better working conditions. However, some have also expressed their concern about how their gameplay experience has been less immersive. There are rumors that the upcoming Sumeru flagship event in Genshin Impact Version 5.1 will also lack a lot of voice lines in the English-dubbed version. This is not the first time that a HoYoverse game has been affected by the strike. Recent Honkai: Star Rail marketing videos for Feixiao and Lingsha were only shared in Japanese instead of the usual English versions. In those cases, HoYoverse also associated it with "recording arrangements."
Despite this setback in Genshin Impact's latest update, players have enjoyed the debut of Xilonen, a 5-star Geo unit that proves to be solid support for multiple teams. Genshin Impact fans can pull for either Xilonen or Chiori before their banners end on November 13. Several Genshin Impact 5.2 leaks have also emerged within the community, with some exciting details about Chasca and Ororon's kits.
