Despite playing a pivotal role from the near start of the Genshin Impact Sumeru Archon quest, Alhaitham wouldn't become a playable character until version 3.4. Fans were rabid for this strange member of the Akademiya, and he finally released to much fanfare.
Anyone hoping to use Alhaitham on their team will need to gather the materials necessary for his ascension and talent upgrades. The Dendro sword-user will use some items from a boss that released alongside him in 3.4, as well as some other materials. Here's everything, and where to find it.
Leveling Materials
Every character in Genshin Impact needs just over 8 million EXP to reach level 90, which is the highest possible level. This works out to an increasing amount of EXP needed between each ascension level, as outlined here:

Alhaitham Ascension Items
Alhaitham is a Dendro character, so he'll need some Nagadus Emerald to ascend. He also needs some Mora and materials from around Sumeru.

Gemstones - Where to Find Nagadus Emerald
This special green gemstone is used to ascend every Dendro character in Genshin Impact. Luckily, it can be found in quite a few ways. The best way to farm it is by defeating bosses that can drop it, which include the following:
- Jadeplume Terrorshroom
- Dendro Hypostasis
- The Guardian of Apep's Oasis (The Realm of New Beginnings)
For a full list of methods for farming Nagadus Emerald, check out this guide:
Enemy Drop - Where to Find Eremite Red Cloths
Dotted around Sumeru's vast desert and deep into its rainforests are the Eremites, an ancient tribe said to have descended from King Deshret's followers. Many of them are encountered as enemies, and, when defeated, will drop various types of red cloth. The higher the level of the Eremite defeated, the higher-quality Red Cloth they can drop. Alhaitham will use these three levels as his ascension level increases.
Eremites are capable of dropping different materials at the following thresholds:
- Any level Eremite: Faded Red Satin
- Eremites who are level 40 and higher: Trimmed Red Silk
- Eremites who are level 60 and higher: Rich Red Brocade
Boss Drop - How to Get Pseudo-Stamens
Added alongside Alhaitham in Genshin Impact version 3.4 was a brand-new standard boss, the Setekh Wenut. This desert-dwelling beast is the source of Pseudo-Stamens, a unique boss drop that Alhaitham needs for his ascension. This boss can be found in the northern portion of Sumeru's desert, north of King Deshret's Mausoleum.
Unfortunately, this boss doesn't drop Nagadus Emerald, so players farming for Alhaitham ascension mats will need to find that elsewhere or convert it from the Anemo gems this boss does drop.
Local Specialty - Where to Find Sand Grease Pupa
Also added in 3.4 was another Alhaitham material, the Sand Grease Pupa. This gross-sounding item is a local specialty of Sumeru, found in the same northern section of the desert as the Setekh Wenut boss. The item can be farmed from this region, and can be found in tunnels created by Wenut.
Alhaitham Talent Materials
Alhaitham is a talented man, and like any character in the game, has three talents that can be upgraded. Each one will require the items listed here, and the totals for one and all three are listed at the bottom.

Talent Books - Ingenuity
Alhaitham could be considered a genius, so it's perfect that he uses the Ingenuity series of talent books to level up his talents. These books can be farmed in the Steeple of Ignorance domain on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
Trounce Materials - Mirror of Mushin
Alhaitham's efforts were instrumental in the Traveler taking down Scaramouche's boss form, and players will need to relive that fight a few times to upgrade the Dendro user's talents. One of the items needed in Alhaitham's talent upgrades is the Mirror of Mushin, which is obtained from Scaramouche's trounce fight, Joururi Workshop.
