No character in Genshin Impact has had as much time between their first appearance and their release as a playable unit as Baizhu, the pharmacist at the Bubu Pharmacy in Liyue. This Dendro catalyst user has been a popular NPC since the game's debut and did not become playable until version 3.6, two and a half years later.

Many people have waited a long time to play as Baizhu, and now that he's out, they'll probably want to level him up for his max potential. To do this, he'll need to ascend and upgrade his talents with the right items and materials. All of Baizhu's ascension mats are outlined in this guide, as well as his talent items and where to find everything he needs around the world of Teyvat.

Ascension Levels and Requirements

Like every character in Genshin Impact, Baizhu needs over 8 million EXP to reach level 90. At certain thresholds, he needs to ascend, as outlined below:

Baizhu Ascension Items

As a character from Liyue, Baizhu needs some of the Geo nation's regional specialties. He'll also need some Nagadus Emerald, since he's a Dendro character. Here's a look at all of Baizhu's ascension items:

Gemstones - Where to Find Nagadus Emerald

Like any other elemental gemstone, Nagadus Emerald can be found in a variety of ways, including the bonus rewards for completing daily commissions. However, most of it will likely come to the player via boss battle rewards. For a full guide on where to find Nagadus Emerald, click here.

As for the bosses who can drop Nagadus Emerald, here's a list:

• Jadeplume Terrorshroom
• Dendro Hypostasis
• The Guardian of Apep's Oasis (The Realm of New Beginnings)

Enemy Drop - Where to Find Fungus Drops

While Fungi enemies were first seen in the Chasm before Sumeru's introduction (and they can still be found there in limited numbers), the Dendro nation is the top place for farming their materials. This is because Fungi spawn in abundance around almost all of Sumeru.

Be sure to avoid hitting them with Electro or Pyro attacks if attempting to ascend Baizhu. When Fungi enemies are hit with these elements, it changes their material drops into a different type that cannot be used for Baizhu's ascension.

Fungi need to be certain levels to drop different quality materials:

• Any level can drop Fungal Spores
• Level 40+: Luminescent Pollen
• Level 60+: Crystalline Cyst Dust

Boss Drop - How to Get Evergloom Ring

The Iniquitous Lector is a boss that was added at the same time Baizhu was, in version 3.6. Defeating it and paying the resin cost will reward the player with 2 or 3 of its boss item, the Evergloom Ring. Baizhu uses this item in his ascension.

Local Specialty - Violetgrass Locations

While many of the items needed to ascend Baizhu are found in Sumeru, players will need to return to the nation he calls home for his regional specialty: Violetgrass. Adorably, both him and his partner, Qiqi, use this flower to ascend.

Violetgrass grows on the sides of cliffs in Liyue, meaning you'll need to do some climbing to retrieve it, or use Nahida's skill to grab it from a distance. The most abundant growing locations for Violetgrass include west of Liyue Harbor in the Lisha area, dotting around the surface level of the Chasm, in the area around Mingyun Village, and around Wuwang Hill and Qingce Village.

Baizhu Talent Materials

Baizhu has three talents that can be upgraded, like every other character. To do so, he'll need the materials listed here:

Talent Books - Gold

The talent series that Baizhu uses for his talents is Liyue's Gold series. These books can be obtained by clearing the Taishan Mansion domain on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Trounce Materials - Worldspan Fern

Baizhu's trounce material is the Worldspan Fern, a few of which will be needed to upgrade his talents. This item is obtained from the Realm of Beginnings trounce domain, in which players must defeat the Guardian of Apep's Oasis. This domain is only available once the player completes Nahida's second Story Quest chapter.
