The Star of the Zubayr Theater has been captivating Genshin Impact players ever since she was teased. Then, after version 3.0 drops and HoYoverse shows Nilou dancing gracefully, she became more desired than Ayaka was when she danced for the Traveler in the Chinju Forest.
Both Ayaka and Nilou wield a Sword as their weapon of choice, but their playstyle is far from similar. For instance, Nilou is much less ATK-focused and has a more supportive role in her team composition. Because of this, Nilou’s best weapons in Genshin Impact also have to adjust to how players wish to play their Nilou.
Updated on April 11, 2023, by Nahda Nabiilah: While Nilou is not everyone’s cup of tea, when it comes to DPS, Nilou remains a solid pick in the Abyss and keeps her place among the top-tier in Genshin Impact’s meta. That is mainly because of two reasons: her ability to produce a great amount of DMG, and the game introducing more and more characters that perfectly synergize with her playstyle. With Genshin Impact 3.6 featuring a Nilou rerun banner, new Nilou havers would want to know more about her kit. For that, this guide will be updated to include more Swords options for Nilou in Genshin Impact.
8 Xiphos’ Moonlight
- Primary Stat: 510 Base ATK
- Secondary Stat: 165 Elemental Mastery
- R5 Effect: The following effect will trigger every 10s: The equipping character will gain 0.072% Energy Recharge for each point of Elemental Mastery they possess for 12s, with nearby party members gaining 30% of this buff for the same duration. Multiple instances of this weapon can allow this buff to stack. This effect will still trigger even if the character is not on the field.
Without having to maximize Nilou’s Elemental Mastery stat, players can use Xiphos’ Moonlight to slightly increase the team’s Energy Recharge. It can be a useful weapon for Nilou since it helps her deal more DMG through her Cores (if she triggered them) while buffing her team.
7 Iron Sting
- Primary Stat: 510 Base ATK
- Secondary Stat: 165 Elemental Mastery
- R5 Effect: Dealing Elemental DMG increases all DMG by 12% for 6s. Max 2 stacks.
Iron Sting is one of the most F2P-friendly options for Nilou in Genshin Impact. It doesn’t grant HP, but it’s still great for its Elemental Mastery sub-stat. Additionally, since Nilou will deal frequent Elemental damage, maximizing the Sword’s passive would be a walk in the park.
If players wish to use a more supportive option, then the Sapwood Blade is a viable alternative. This Sumeru forgeable weapon in Genshin Impact can be crafted after players gain the Blueprint from Aravinay by the Tree of Dreams.
6 Haran Geppaku Futsu
- Primary Stat: 608 Base ATK
- Secondary Stat: 33.1% CRIT Rate
- Effect: Obtain 12% All Elemental DMG Bonus. When other nearby party members use Elemental Skills, the character equipping this weapon will gain 1 Wavespike stack. Max 2 stacks. This effect can be triggered once every 0.3s. When the character equipping this weapon uses an Elemental Skill, all stacks of Wavespike will be consumed to gain Rippling Upheaval: each stack of Wavespike consumed will increase Normal Attack DMG by 20% for 8s.
For players that want to keep Nilou on the field to use her Sword Dance stance, Haran Geppaku Futsu is a great stat Sword that will increase her CRIT Rate and Hydro DMG. Unfortunately, Nilou doesn’t benefit from Haran’s large Base ATK or Normal Attack buff, unless players paired her with Candace, which infuses Nilou’s Normal Attacks with Hydro.
5 Mistsplitter Reforged
- Primary Stat: 674 Base ATK
- Secondary Stat: 44.1% CRIT DMG
- Effect: Gain a 12% Elemental DMG Bonus for all elements and receive the might of the Mistsplitter's Emblem. At stack levels 1/2/3, Mistsplitter's Emblem provides an 8/16/28% Elemental DMG Bonus for the character's Elemental Type. The character will obtain 1 stack of Mistsplitter's Emblem in each of the following scenarios: Normal Attack deals Elemental DMG (stack lasts 5s), casting Elemental Burst (stack lasts 10s); Energy is less than 100% (stack disappears when Energy is full). Each stack's duration is calculated independently.
Although Nilou is best used as a support in Genshin Impact, she can also work as a DPS. To make her a damage dealer, players need to continue her Elemental Skill sequence by avoiding the Whirling Steps. The Whirling Steps can be done by pressing her Elemental Skill, so Travelers should tap her Normal Attacks instead. Doing this will ensure Nilou gains an 8s Hydro Infusion instead of her supportive effect. After gaining her Hydro Infusion, players can now play Nilou as a damage dealer, dealing Hydro DMG in a graceful sequence for 8s.
4 Primordial Jade Cutter
- Primary Stat: 542 Base ATK
- Secondary Stat: 44.1% CRIT Rate
- Effect: HP increased by 20%. Additionally, provides an ATK Bonus based on 1.2% of the wielder's Max HP.
This Nilou weapon is perfect if players wish to play her as a DPS in Genshin Impact. First, Primordial Jade Cutter has a low base ATK, which is not an issue since Nilou scales mostly with HP. To make up for the low ATK, Jade Cutter provides a massive 44.1% Crit Rate instead, which means Travelers won’t have to worry about building Nilou’s Critical Rate. Afterward, the weapon also grants additional HP for Nilou, a stat that’s most important for her.
3 Freedom-Sworn
- Primary Stat: 608 Base ATK
- Secondary Stat: 198 Elemental Mastery
- Effect: A part of the "Millennial Movement" that wanders amidst the winds. Increases DMG by 10%. When the character wielding this weapon triggers Elemental Reactions, they gain a Sigil of Rebellion. This effect can be triggered once every 0.5s and can be triggered even if said character is not on the field. When you possess 2 Sigils of Rebellion, all of them will be consumed and all nearby party members will obtain "Millennial Movement: Song of Resistance" for 12s. "Millennial Movement: Song of Resistance" increases Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attack DMG by 16% and increases ATK by 20%. Once this effect is triggered, you will not gain Sigils of Rebellion for 20s. Of the many effects of the "Millennial Movement," buffs of the same type will not stack.
Since Nilou is already operating as a buffer in her team comps, giving her weapons like Freedom-Sworn is viable. In addition to the Elemental Mastery Sub-stat that improves her Elemental Reaction’s DMG, she now can increase her team’s Basic Attack DMG and ATK% on top of the buffs Nilou grants to the generated Dendro Cores.
2 Sacrificial Sword
- Primary Stat: 454 Base ATK
- Secondary Stat: 61.3% Energy Recharge
- R5 Effect: After dealing damage to an opponent with an Elemental Skill, the skill has a 80% chance to end its own CD. Can only occur once every 16s.
Players can use Nilou as either a Hydro enabler and buffer or as a DPS. If players choose to use the dancer as a support, then they should ensure Nilou’s Skill ends with her Whirling Steps. This way, Nilou will create a Tranquility Aura that applies the Wet status to enemies in its AoE, allowing the team to produce Dendro Cores via the Bloom Elemental Reaction.
Unfortunately, Nilou’s Tranquility Aura is only available for 12s, so players will end up with 6s without her Hydro application. This issue can be solved by either getting Nilou’s first Constellation in Genshin Impact or by equipping her with the Sacrificial Sword. With the Sacrificial Sword, Nilou will reset her Elemental Skill cooldown, allowing players to bring her back to the field once the current Tranquility Aura disappears. This strategy is even more viable if players have at least R4 of the Sword. However, remember to be mindful when tapping Nilou’s Elemental Skill, otherwise, the Sacrificial Sword’s effect might get wasted.
1 Key of Khaj-Nisut
- Primary Stat: 542 Base ATK
- Secondary Stat: 66.2% HP
- Effect: +20% HP. When an Elemental Skill hits opponents, gain the Grand Hymn effect for 20s. This effect increases the equipping character’s Elemental Mastery by 0.12% of their Max HP. Max 3 stacks. When this effect gains 3 stacks, or when the third stack’s duration is refreshed, the Elemental Mastery of all nearby party members will be increased by 0.2% of the equipping character’s max HP for 20s.
Unsurprisingly, the Key of Khaj-Nisut is Nilou’s best weapon in Genshin Impact. The weapon has a low base ATK, which in return provides a large secondary stat. This Sword doesn’t only enhance Nilou’s HP and Elemental Mastery, but its passive is fully catered to match her moveset, where her Elemental Skill is meant to deal damage at least three times in its duration. In addition to granting herself some EM, once the passive is fully activated, Nilou will also grant a decent Elemental Mastery boost to the entire team.
Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
