A datamined file from the latest Genshin Impact beta build strongly implies that Capitano may not survive his campaign in Natlan after all. While Genshin Impact has a diverse cast of characters, its community is especially excited whenever a new Archon or a Fatui Harbinger enters the narrative. For Fontaine, it was Furina and Arlecchino, and for Natlan, it shaped up to be Mavuika and Capitano. While the former was only recently introduced in Version 5.0, Capitano has slowly built up his fandom ever since his debut in "A Winter Night's Lazzo" in 2022.
Capitano has ties to Natlan and the Masters of the Night-Wind, and his crusade against the Abyss is a matter of personal honor. As a survivor of Khaen'riah, Capitano has deep connections to the lore of Genshin Impact, and many players were looking forward to seeing his story be given its well-deserved time in the spotlight. While recent rumors pointed towards Capitano not being a playable character in Natlan, the actual truth may end up being rather bleak for his fans.
A music file from the latest beta build was shared via Miruko with the following keywords: Cinder City Capitano Tombstone. While it is important to take leaked information with a grain of salt, it is especially vital to understand that leaks often contain incomplete information due to a lack of context. In this case, the tombstone could potentially allude to Capitano's fallen comrades rather than the Fatui Harbinger himself. After all, Capitano in Genshin Impact has a datamined weapon type and playable model.
Genshin Impact: Could Capitano Die in Version 5.3?
While the evidence is damning, and Genshin Impact has shown that it's not afraid to kill off its Fatui Harbingers, there is one important thing to keep in mind. It could be argued that Capitano has left his mark on the land of Natlan, and as such, could be entitled to an Ancient Name. As the bearer of an Ancient Name, Capitano could end up sacrificing his life to stop the Abyss in Natlan, only to be resurrected by the Ode of Resurrection. It is understood that the Traveler and Mavuika in Genshin Impact will confront the corroded form of Xiuhcoatl in Version 5.3, but Capitano's exact role in the story remains a mystery.
Another important aspect of Capitano's potential death is that it would open up the possibility of him being cured by the Ode of Resurrection, thus setting the stage for Capitano to become playable. Despite Capitano not being on the list of upcoming characters in Genshin Impact, an unnamed 5-star is slated to debut after Iansan and Varesa. While this character isn't from Natlan, and new Harbingers aren't expected to be playable until Snezhnaya, there is a faint possibility that the spot is reserved for Capitano under his true name, which was almost revealed in Version 5.2.
