It’s a sad day for Genshin Impact players on PlayStation 4, as miHoYo has announced it will end support and discontinue updates on this platform, with removal scheduled for September. Genshin Impact has evolved quite significantly since its initial release in 2020, and miHoYo plans to continue its development on more powerful platforms.
Genshin Impact has come a long way since 2020, significantly expanding its open world, adding new regions, a bunch of new playable characters, and nearly 200 quality-of-life features to polish and improve the game experience. Just a few days ago, Genshin Impact started promoting Flins, a new 5-Star Electro Polearm character coming in Version 6.0, as well as Aino, alongside a wide variety of other characters also joining in patch 6.0. Moreover, leaks and official revelations indicate that miHoYo has tons of plans for the future, as it continues evolving the game—however, players on one of Sony’s platforms won’t be part of it anymore.

Genshin Impact Ending PS4 Support on September 10
Developer miHoYo has officially announced that, starting September 10, the popular gacha game Genshin Impact will be removed from the PS4’s PlayStation Store, and those who haven’t downloaded the game before this date won’t be able to search for it anymore. The discontinuation will continue gradually: after its removal from digital storefronts, miHoYo will delist any in-game purchases on the PS4 starting February 25, 2026.
Moreover, the ceasing of updates on this platform will begin on April 8, 2025. Sadly for PS4 users, after this, they won’t be able to log in to the game on that system, and anything they’ve bought will need to be claimed on the PS5. For those who want to continue enjoying all the upcoming Genshin Impact content, they can do so on the PS5, and any progress will carry over to the new platform. Starting December 17, PS4 players will be able to bind other login methods through a prompt that will show up in the Genshin Impact interface.
Until the game’s purchases and updates are delisted, PS4 players can continue buying through the in-game shop or the PlayStation Store, and can also keep updating the game—though they must remember to claim their purchases before February 25, 2026. The reason behind this move has to do with “limitations related to hardware performance and platform application size,” as miHoYo noted. Unfortunately for players, this marks the end of an era for PS4, as both players and developers are slowly switching to Sony’s more technologically advanced platform.
