Summary
- A Genshin Impact fans reimagines Ganyu as a Pokemon trainer.
- As a Cryo user, the fan concept gives Ganyu a Spheal as it is a Water/Ice Pokemon.
- Ganyu excels as a main DPS or sub-DPS in Genshin Impact, though the Cryo element's weakness hinders her viability in the game.
A talented artist has created an interesting Genshin Impact concept by reimagining Liyue's Cryo user, Ganyu, as a Pokémon trainer. Genshin Impact is known for having a community of fans who, inspired by the game's impressive character designs, often try to create their own projects.
The most popular concept types usually take existing Genshin Impact characters and place them in different environments, including other franchises such as Pokemon. Even though Ganyu is one of the oldest characters on the roster, she still has a sizable player base and is regarded as an S- or A-tier character.
Genshin Impact Concept Combines Varesa With Honkai's Firefly
An interesting fan-made concept combines Genshin Impact's new five-star character Varesa with Firefly from the world of Honkai: Star Rail.
A Reddit user named tsukibun_art has shared an adorable concept in which they've recreated the fan-favorite Ganyu as a Pokemon trainer with a familiar pocket monster by her side. The new concept shows Ganyu wearing a schoolgirl outfit instead of her usual clothes, which fit Liyue's traditional aesthetic. The post gained a lot of attention in the community, reaching over 1.3k upvotes, with many comments praising the design. Choosing Spheal as Ganyu's companion makes sense since Ganyu is a Cryo user in Genshin Impact and Spheal is a Water/Ice Pokemon. Spheal was introduced back in Generation III and can evolve into Sealeo and Walrein. Some fans have pointed out that Genshin Impact should have made the recently introduced Saurians function similarly to Pokemon.
Genshin Impact Fan Creates Pokemon Trainer Concept for Ganyu
As one of the older characters on the roster, Ganyu has become part of Genshin Impact's Chronicled Wish Banner, which can run alongside the usual limited banner. The most recent Chronicled Wish appeared in January 2025 during Genshin Impact Version 5.3. The introduction of this banner was necessary as the pool of limited five-star characters kept growing with each update, and some playable units went over 500 days without a banner appearance.
Ganyu's best role in most team compositions is main DPS, but she can also be a viable sub-DPS in Genshin Impact since her Elemental Burst stays on the field even if she gets swapped out. However, the core part of her kit is the enhanced Charged Attack, which can deal massive amounts of AoE damage from a long distance. Even though Ganyu was once considered by far the best DPS in the game, the releases of newer and more complex characters have pushed her back in the meta.
Another reason why Ganyu may not be as viable as she used to be is the overall state of the Cryo element in Genshin Impact. For a long time now, Cryo has been considered one of the weakest elements in the game alongside Geo. This is mainly due to the fact that HoYoverse introduced many powerful new elemental reactions with Dendro, none of which interact with Cryo.
