With the release of Genshin Impact's version 4.0 and the introduction of the Fontaine region, players have encountered new enemies known as Fontemer Aberrants. These aquatic lifeforms can be found throughout the Fontaine region, both on land and underwater. These new enemies add variety to the game's ecosystem and provide players with new challenges to overcome as they explore this new region.

Fontemer Aberrants in Genshin Impact comprise various sea creatures, including crabs, seahorses, seals, octopuses, and more. They come in different colors and have varying levels of aggression. While encountering and defeating them is generally straightforward and easy, except for miniboss versions (Local Legends), there are some details to keep in mind. It's worth noting that all Fontemer Aberrants drop the same material, Transoceanic Pearl, along with its higher rarity forms, Transoceanic Chunk and Xenochromatic Crystal, which are used for character ascensions and talents, particularly for characters like Freminet and the Hydro Traveler.

Types Of Fontemer Aberrants

Fontemer Aberrant Types

Currently, there are 7 Normal Fontemer Aberrants and 3 Elite versions, which are typically stronger and can be found on both land and in the sea. It's worth noting that Elite versions have a higher chance of dropping the higher rarity versions of the talent and ascension material, whereas Normal versions mostly drop Transoceanic Pearls due to drop chance modifiers.

Additionally, unlike the normal versions, which are generally non-aggressive and will only start attacking if players attack first, Elite versions will aggro players upon getting close to them, regardless of whether they are attacked or not. These Elite versions will also obtain a shield when found on land, reducing the damage they take. However, this shield does not make them immune to damage, unlike some other enemy shields like those of Abyss Mages or Abyss Heralds. Here are all types of Fontemer Aberrants players can come across:

Normal Fontemer Aberrants

  • Angelic Sea Hare
  • Armored Crab
  • Ball Octopus
  • Blubberbeast
  • Bubbly Seahorse
  • Hat Jellyfish
  • Hunter's Ray

Elite Fontemer Aberrants

  • Bubbler Seahorse
  • Cherubic Sea Hare
  • Sternshield Crab

How To Farm Fontemer Aberrants

Fontemer Aberrant Farm

With nearly 500 Fontemar Aberrant spots, most of which are underwater, it's not entirely possible to follow a specific farming route. Nevertheless, since most of the higher rarity materials drop from Elite Fontemer Aberrants, it is recommended that players farm the ones on land first and then use the in-game enemy tracking guide to find the ones underwater, while also farming others they may come across on the way to the next spots. Conveniently, the enemy tracking guide will typically show only the groups with Elite Fontemer Aberrants (unless none remain), but there may also be normal versions alongside them.

It's important to note that while players can use their character skills on land to defeat Fontemer Aberrants, for the underwater ones, it's best that players make good use of the nearby Xenochromatic Creature abilities, such as the water blades from Hunter Rays, sonar waves from Blubberbeasts, and armor from the Armored Crabs. These creatures can generally be found in the area and will have a marker related to their abilities on their heads to make it easier for players to find them. Afterwards, players can simply use basic attacks after aiming at them to obtain their ability. It's worth noting that it is entirely possible to defeat Fontemer Aberrants without needing to gain any Xenochromatic abilities unlike for example needing to do so to destroy a Bullet Barnacle. However, doing so with basic attacks will simply take longer, and players are more susceptible to attacks from these enemies, which may cause their characters to be knocked down.

For the Fontemer Aberrants on land, players can essentially bring any team they typically use for farming. However, since they can gain a shield, it's ideal to focus on applying as many elements as possible (and preferably include at least one Hydro character to make it viable against all Elites) to deplete their shields with Elemental Reactions. During their shield mode, they will typically launch stronger (and elemental) attacks while also gaining a 60% resistance to all elements and damage types. Bubbler Seahorse gains an Electro shield, Cherubic Sea Hare gains a Cryo shield and lastly Sternshield Crab gains a Pyro shield.

Fontemer Aberrant Locations on Land

Here are some routes players can follow on land to find the Fontemer Aberrants easily:

Fontemer Aberrants at Belleau

Fontemer Aberrant Route Belleau South Islands

On the south of the map, near the first Statue of Seven players will come across upon reaching Fontaine, island formations have a plenty of Fontemer Aberrants. Nevertheless, the nearest teleport point to reach is either through the most southern teleport point of Beryl region, but ideally through the artifact domain in Belleau Region and circle around each island and region coasts nearby. Players who want to make the most of this particular route, can also dive between the islands to find the underwater Fontemer Aberrants on the way.

Fontemer Aberrant Route Belleau South Main

On the south part of the main island of Belleau Region, there are also more Fontemer Aberrants easily reachable through the nearby teleport point.

Fontemer Aberrant Route Belleau North

There are also two more locations for Fontemer Aberrants in the middle and northern parts of the Belleau Region. However, these are best farmed while also exploring underwater locations, as the teleport point on land is not quite nearby. By using an underwater teleport point, players can come across many more enemies to farm and make their farming route more efficient.

Fontemer Aberrants at Court of Fontaine

Fontemer Aberrant Route Court of Fontaine North

While there aren't many specific spots for land-based Fontemer Aberrants at Court of Fontaine, the few locations that do exist are actually packed with multiple sets of elite Fontemer Aberrants and normal versions around them. One of these spots, as shown in the image above, is on the northern part of the Court of Fontaine at the western side of the map, where players will find plenty of Fontemer Aberrants upon teleporting to the designated teleport point.

Fontemer Aberrant Route Court of Fontaine South

Similarly, upon teleporting to the designated teleport point as shown on the map, and following the shoreline towards the west, players will come across more Fontemer Aberrants. The eastern part of Court of Fontaine's land region does not have any land-based enemies of this kind, while plenty can be found underwater in the large water body in between.

Fontemer Aberrants at Beryl

Fontemer Aberrant Route Court of Beryl Middle

It's possible to find Fontemer Aberrants all around Beryl's shorelines, including near the inland lakes located at the middle section of this area. Players simply need to take the nearest teleport points and follow along the shorelines to find them.

Fontemer Aberrant Route Court of Beryl North

North shoreline of Beryl also has plenty of spots players can reach through the nearby teleport points.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
