Genshin Impact players are displeased with the current state of the Geo element and want major changes to increase viability of playable Geo characters in endgame content. In Genshin Impact, playable characters bear a Vision that corresponds with one of seven elemental affinities.
When Genshin Impact launched in September 2020, playable characters may have a Vision from one of six elements: Anemo, Geo, Electro, Hydro, Pyro, and Cryo. The Traveler is a unique individual in the world of Teyvat since they have the potential to unlock and equip various elements by visiting Statues of the Seven, which each represent a godlike being known as an Archon. Two years after launch, HoYoverse introduced the seventh and final element, Dendro, alongside the vast Sumeru region in Genshin Impact version 3.0. Once more, Genshin Impact players would unlock new power for the Traveler after venturing into the region and progressing the main story.
Genshin Impact players are unhappy with the Geo element with several users in the community suggesting major changes to Geo abilities. Reddit users Shradow and Cat-meg believe Geo constructs are too fragile and unreliable in their current state, causing players to depend on the raw damage output of characters such as Arataki Itto, Zhongli, and Albedo instead of their Geo abilities. As a result, several Genshin Impact fans want the Geo element to be buffed drastically and have a unique elemental reaction similar to Anemo's Swirl instead of the Crystallize reaction. Fans believe this particular change would increase overall damage output and usefulness of Geo characters and their respective elemental abilities.
Other Genshin Impact fans, including Reddit user ImNotSonicImBLONIC, believe the current Crystallize reaction may still be viable in the game if elemental shields grant buffs based on the applied element. For example, a Cryo elemental shield may increase the character's critical hit rate, and a Pyro elemental shield may cause a powerful AoE shockwave after successfully landing an attack. ImNotSonicImBLONIC claims that this change may allow the Geo element to serve as a "wildcard" for team comps in activities like the weekly Spiral Abyss domain.
Changes to the Geo element may be needed once the new Fontaine region is made available in an upcoming update. The element's overall use in Genshin Impact may diminish even further if the game does not introduce new Geo characters with specialties lying outside of defense. The Crystallize reaction may be useful in certain instances, but fans are worried that elements like Pyro and Dendro may overshadow Geo as time passes and new updates are revealed.
At the very least, HoYoverse greatly values player feedback, and the growing demand for Geo changes may help the developers approach the situation with new ideas from the community. However, Fontaine's Archon represents Hydro, so the possibility of new Geo characters in Genshin Impact version 4.0 appears to be unlikely for now.
Genshin Impact is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Nintendo Switch version is in development.
