Strange, mysterious, and a bit shady — these are all words to describe Genshin Impact's free Cryo character, Kaeya Alberich. This peculiar young man is one of a few characters given to players totally free, and he isn't too bad as far as playable characters go when it comes to combat.

As a result, many people will probably look to ascend and power up Kaeya, especially early in their game. To do just that, here is everything needed.

Leveling Materials

Kaeya, like every character in Genshin Impact, uses a ton of EXP and Mora to reach his max level of 90. Here's how much is needed between each ascension level:

Gemstones - Where to Find Shivada Jade

Shivada Jade, like all elemental gemstones, can be found by defeating bosses, shopping at souvenir shops, using the Parametric Transformer, and finishing daily commissions for the Adventurers' Guild. Most of the elemental stones a player will earn will come from bosses, though only the following can reward Shivada Jade specifically:

*Azhdaha and the Primo Geovishap can only drop Shivada Jade when they're aligned with Cryo.

Enemy Drop - Where to Find Treasure Hoarder Insignias

Kaeya needs to take care of some pesky Treasure Hoarder to ascend, as he uses their material drops for his ascension. Higher-level Treasure Hoarders can drop better materials, as shown here:

Level 60+: Golden Raven Insignia

Treasure Hoarders can be found all over the place, but they appear in decent numbers around ruins in Liyue, dotting the islands in the Inazuman archipelago, and in the Chasm's Underground Mines. Click here for a guide to many more locations and farming routes.

Boss Drop - How to Get Hoarfrost Core

One of the large mutated Whopperflowers is the Cryo Regisvine, which drops Hoarfrost Cores when defeated (and the player pays the Original Resin cost). This boss can be found on the Falcon Coast in Mondstadt.

Kaeya uses this boss drop in his ascension — but beware: Kaeya is not a great match for the Cryo Regisvine. This boss has a heightened resistance to Cryo damage.

Local Specialty - Where to Find Calla Lilies

These beautiful flowers are one of the local specialties in Mondstadt. Even though Kaeya may hail from Khaenri'ah, he still uses this Mondstadt specialty to ascend.

After exhausting the wild Calla Lily spawn locations, there are two other ways to grab some: grow them in the Serenitea Pot, or purchase them from Flora, the young girl who runs the flower shop in the city. She stocks five of them every three days and sells them for 1,000 Mora each.

Talent Books - Ballad

The Ballad series of talent books is found in Mondstadt, where Kaeya currently calls home. More specifically, these books can be found by clearing the Forsaken Rift domain on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Trounce Materials - Spirit Locket of Boreas

Defeating Andrius at his weekly trounce challenge will net the player some nice rewards, one of which can be the Spirit Locket of Boreas. This is the trounce material Kaeya needs for his talents.
