A new leak from Genshin Impact is hinting at the introduction of a brand-new game mode coming in the near future, adding an "Auto Chess" mode to the RPG. Throughout the more than four-year-long lifespan of the beloved RPG, developer HoYoverse has experimented with a wide variety of different game modes and gameplay styles. Events have introduced everything from tower defense and rhythm games to the addition of a full-fledged trading card game with Genius Invokation TCG. Now, Auto Chess may be the next in line to hit the world of Teyvat.
The Auto Chess genre saw a significant spike in popularity during the late 2010s, with many different franchises looking to capitalize on the concept. First born from a mod for popular MOBA Dota 2, the game mode would transform into an entire genre, with other franchises like Starcraft and League of Legends later experimenting with the idea. Riot Games' Teamfight Tactics would arguably become one of the most well-known variants, receiving consistent support and updates from the League of Legends developer. Genshin Impact is now reportedly set to be next to jump in on the trend.

Genshin Impact Leak Teases Auto Chess Game Mode
A new update shared by prominent HoYoverse leaker HomDGCat is teasing an Auto Chess mode coming to Genshin Impact. According to the leak, the game mode will feature both PvP and PvE modes with a mix of "exploration" and "combat" gameplay. Players will acquire equipment and Artifacts within the Genshin Impact game mode to power up their characters, also being able to sell equipment to gain currency for improving a character's Talents. The post does not share a specific release date for Genshin Impact's Auto Chess mode, but does confirm it will be sometime after Version 5.6.
A Genshin Impact Auto Chess mode will come as the RPG's newest adaptation of popular game formats. HoYoverse has often taken inspiration from popular online games for its new mini-games, like Windtrace as Genshin Impact's version of Prop Hunt. Some of its new mini-games have become so popular among fans that the developer has even permanently added them to the game, making the fan-favorite rhythm mini-game a permanent fixture. The leak does not clarify whether Genshin Impact's Auto Chess will be event-exclusive or a permanent game mode.
While Genshin Impact's Auto Chess is rumored to come later, the RPG looks to have plenty on the way with the upcoming Version 5.5. The next update will introduce two new characters to the game's roster, with Varesa as a new five-star character and Iansan as a four-star unit. The patch will also debut the next expansion to Natlan's map, bringing in the Great Volcano of Tollan as the newest addition to the sixth playable region. A new Auto Chess game mode will look to be a new fan-favorite amongst Genshin Impact's legions of players.
