As usual, the main focus of each update in 2024 was on new playable units, which does not come as a surprise considering that Genshin Impact operates on a gacha-based system. This means that the Limited Character Banner is the game's primary source of revenue.

A Reddit user named Smart-Tale-4193 shared an intriguing chart revealing the most popular male and female characters in the game at the moment. The chart's data was taken from HoYoverse's official forum, HoYoLAB, and the characters were categorized into male and female groups. According to the chart, the overall most popular character is the Hydro user Neuvillette, who, despite officially arriving in 2023, managed to take the top spot on the list. Neuvillette, also known as the Hydro Sovereign, is widely regarded as one of the most powerful DPS units in all of Genshin Impact. Many fans believe Neuvillette has set new standards for what a five-star DPS unit should be capable of in the game. Some players have even managed to complete entire Spiral Abyss runs with only the Hydro dragon in their team composition.
Genshin Impact: Most Popular Characters in 2024
Second place went to Neuvillette's Fontaine colleague, Lady Furina, also known as the Hydro Archon. As a new Archon, the majority of Fontaine's main storyline revolved around Lady Furina, and her Archon Quest is widely considered the best storyline in Genshin Impact to date. Regarding Furina's in-game performance, similar to Neuvillette, she excels in her primary role as a support character and is unmatched by any other Hydro user in this regard.
Unsurprisingly, the third most popular character in 2024 is the five-star Pyro user Arlecchino, who served as the main antagonist in the Fontaine storyline. Many fans are excited to see more of Arlecchino, as the events in Fontaine strongly suggest she will play a significant role in Genshin Impact's future developments. Arlecchino also introduced the Genshin Impact's Bond-of-Life effect, which is exclusive to a few Fontaine characters.
The fourth most popular five-star unit is another Archon, the Geo user Zhongli. Despite being released back in 2020, Liyue's leader is still regarded as the most powerful shielder in Genshin Impact. Zhongli remains a must-have pick for team compositions involving multiple Geo characters.
