Summary
- According to a leak, Version 5.5 of Genshin Impact will introduce the Great Volcano of Tollan as a multi-layered zone.
- The update is expected to include new characters and artifacts.
- Natlan's content release schedule is back-loaded but not necessarily smaller than past regions.
A recent Genshin Impact leak has revealed that Version 5.5 will take players to the Great Volcano of Tollan, the next map expansion for Natlan that features the Collective of Plenty. Compared to its predecessors, the region of Natlan in Genshin Impact has had a rather unorthodox release schedule. By Version 5.4, the Natlan era will only have one Artifact Domain and two zones. By Version 4.4, the Fontaine era had two Artifact Domains and four zones – double the amount of content by comparison.
While this does not mean that Natlan will be a smaller region compared to previous patch cycles, it does imply that it will be back-loaded in a way that Genshin Impact players have yet to experience. Version 5.2 introduced the Flower-Feather Clan and the Masters of the Night-Wind, but one more tribe still remains unexplored: the Collective of Plenty, located in Southwestern Natlan, whose champions include Genshin Impact characters like Varesa and Iansan.
Genshin Impact Players Want Changes to Current Banner System
Genshin Impact players want changes to HoYoverse's Limited Character Banner that would allow re-runs to occur more frequently.
According to Uncle Teyvat, not only will Version 5.5 feature the Great Volcano of Tollan, but it will be a multi-layered zone – with an aerial and a subterranean map on top of the base layer. The Collective of Plenty will have its main settlement on the northern slopes of Tollan, and players will be able to traverse the area with the help of the Tatankasaurs. It should be noted that Uncle Teyvat is certain that Mare Jivari is coming to Genshin Impact, and is intended to be the next zone after Tollan – either in Version 5.6 or Version 5.7.
Genshin Impact Leak Teases the Great Volcano of Tollan for Version 5.5
The Great Volcano of Tollan, on top of being an important location in Natlan lore, is intended to be the next step in the Traveler's journey with their Saurian companion. Bringing both Golden Entreaties to the volcano will likely play a major role in the next World Quest series, and according to Uncle Teyvat, this piece of the zone will have a separate map (like Remuria or Enkanomiya). While not yet confirmed, it's highly likely that the next Artifact Domain in Genshin Impact will feature in the upcoming zone as well.
Version 5.5 is overall shaping up to be a large content update. Given that neither Version 5.3 nor Version 5.4 have featured a map expansion, it may be just what Genshin Impact needs to shake itself out of a lull. In addition to the new zone, Version 5.5 will also see the debut of Iansan and Varesa to Genshin Impact, and it is expected to launch on March 26, 2025.
