Genshin Impact is getting closer and closer to the presumed end of its story. Although Natlan should have plenty of life left in it, its recent release has left only one of the seven major nations unexplored. This refers to Snezhnaya, which will seemingly serve as the penultimate chapter of Genshin Impact before Khaenri'ah.
Snezhnaya is the current home of the Fatui Harbingers, and this has lent plenty of anticipation to the upcoming region. While Snezhnaya may house Genshin Impact's main villains, Khaenri'ah seems bound to contain massive revelations about the story so far. While it is reasonable to expect to learn about the plans and ultimate fate of the Abyss Twin, one major twist would give Genshin Impact a new path that nobody could have predicted.

Genshin Impact takes place in the world of Teyvat, with players adventuring across seven major regions. Each of these nations has been added one by one, providing the game's updates with a significant level of stability. Likewise, this structure provides a solid road map to the end of Genshin Impact's story.
Genshin Impact only recently began its Natlan story arc, and players will almost certainly enter Snezhnaya shortly after Natlan concludes. While that would mark the last of Teyvat's seven nations, there would still be one remaining region for players to explore. After all, the Khaenri'ah region has been teased for several years now.
The Kingdom of Khaenri'ah is distinct from the continent of Teyvat, but is more intrinsic to Genshin Impact than any previous nation. Khaenri'ah is most infamous for its role in the Cataclysm, and its subsequent destruction at the hands of Celestia. Dainsleif is a plot-important character native to the region, and who is responsible for sharing much of the information players have so far.
Khaenri'ah Could Be Just the Beginning for Genshin Impact
Khaenri'ah currently appears to be the ending chapter of Genshin Impact, but appearances aren't always as they seem. Although it may seem unlikely at first, it's possible that this perception is simply a red herring. If developers want to completely topple fan expectations, Khaenri'ah could be just the beginning.
Khaenri'ah is currently listed as "Chapter???", with an "Epilogue" included just after it. This is currently the finalized plan for Genshin Impact's upcoming story arcs. However, Khaenri'ah may be concealing a way to prolong the game's story for much longer. While players have followed the Traveler and their story since the beginning of Genshin Impact, Khaenri'ah could change everything.
Introducing a New Main Character Could Be Just What Genshin Impact Needs
If Genshin Impact continues far into the future, the Traveler needs to be left behind with their story. Khaenri'ah will likely conclude the story between the Traveler and their twin, but one ending could lead to another beginning. In the aftermath of Genshin's years-long story, it could introduce a whole new protagonist for players to follow.
This would undoubtedly be the biggest shakeup possible, and provide a reasonable route for HoYo to continue supporting the game. There are many possible routes to take, which is quite possibly the greatest benefit of this approach. Genshin Impact could usher in a new era upon retiring the Traveler, or it could simply link into a full scale sequel game with a new protagonist. Furthermore, the protagonist could be a character players have already met, or a whole new character entirely.
Genshin Impact has had a large and loyal fanbase ever since its inception, so it's understandable if developers want to prolong its lifespan. After Khaenri'ah, the Traveler may not have any stories left to tell, but this doesn't mean the players' journey should end. Many players have formed close memories with the Traveler, and it's possible that they could embark with a whole new protagonist in the near future.
