Recent datamining of Genshin Impact reveals that Version 6.2 will likely not feature any new map expansion, effectively creating another exploration drought. Though Genshin Impact has greatly expanded its initial scope, it could be argued that the game's bread-and-butter has always been its playable characters and its open world zones. Over a hundred characters make up its roster, and two more are set to be added in Version 6.2 – Durin and Jahoda.
However, since the debut of Natlan with Version 5.0, Genshin Impact has struggled to maintain the same cadence of map expansions as earlier regions. Whereas Fontaine managed to release four map expansions in its first five updates, Natlan only released two. Natlan introduced a new zone with its debut in Version 5.0, a second one in Version 5.2, and a third one in Version 5.5, wrapping up the region with the Summer Event in Version 5.8. Many players were hoping that these content droughts were unique to Natlan in Genshin Impact, but it would seem that Nod-Krai will follow in the same direction.

Genshin Impact: Version 6.2 Will Likely Skip Adding a New Zone
According to Uncle Teyvat and HomDGCat, there is no new zone in Version 6.2. This means that Genshin Impact will once again go 18 weeks without a single map expansion. With Nod-Krai rumored to feature a total of five islands, it's reasonable to expect that it will feature at least two more zones before Genshin Impact moves on to Snezhnaya. This lack of exploration content in Genshin Impact was recently critiqued by players following the release of Nod-Krai, as not only have there been fewer map expansions compared to Fontaine, but the new zones are more compact, more streamlined, and easier to complete.
Even though Version 6.2 won't come with a new zone, it will add a new World Boss for players to tackle. Presumably, it will drop ascension materials for either Durin or Jahoda, or both. There has been plenty of excitement about Durin in Genshin Impact finally joining the playable roster, but Jahoda has also gained plenty of popularity after the launch of Nod-Krai. In terms of their gameplay, Durin is expected to be an off-field Pyro Support, while Jahoda will be another Anemo Healer.
Given that Version 6.1 and Version 6.2 won't come with a new map expansion, players should prepare for a smaller number of Primogems to work with. It's important to keep in mind that Columbina in Genshin Impact will likely have her playable debut in Version 6.3. Version 6.2 is set to launch on December 3, 2025.
