Summary
- Cryo characters in Genshin Impact are currently not favored due to Dendro's introduction.
- The incorporation of Dendro reactions caused Cryo to be overshadowed in the meta.
- Players hope upcoming Cryo characters will revive the element's relevance, especially against boss nullifying reactions.
Genshin Impact players don't seem to be too happy with the current state of Cryo characters in the game. Apart from the Traveler, each character in Genshin Impact is able to control one type of elemental damage. At the moment, there are seven different elements, with Dendro being the last one introduced at the start of the Sumeru arc.
Genshin Impact's combat system is fairly simple, as it requires players to combine the elemental powers of their four party characters in order to trigger elemental reactions. These reactions can have different effects, from multiplying damage output to immobilizing a group of enemies.
A Reddit user named ixXplicitRed has started an interesting discussion about the current state of Cryo characters in Genshin Impact's meta. The Redditor claims that while the characters are cool design-wise, there isn't really a reason to use them apart from a couple of specific cases. The post attracted a lot of attention, reaching over 1.8k upvotes on Genshin Impact's official subreddit, with many comments agreeing with the premise. Some comments pointed out that the main reason Cryo feels left out is the introduction of the Dendro element. Dendro has brought tons of new and powerful elemental reactions; however, none of them are tied to the Cryo element. The addition of Dendro reactions significantly shifted the meta with powerful reactions such as Bloom, Aggravate, and many others.
Genshin Impact Fans Want Changes to Cryo
Many characters that arrived during the Sumeru arc, such as Nilou, have kits revolving around one specific reaction — in her case, Bloom. A couple of fans claim that HoYoverse needs to rework the way some of the Cryo reactions work. For example, the fact that bosses can completely nullify Genshin Impact's Frozen reaction makes many Cryo team compositions almost useless when fighting these powerful enemies.
The Superconduct elemental reaction can be triggered by combining Cryo with Electro, and it reduces the enemies' Physical RES. This means that in order to take advantage of this reaction, players need their DPS to revolve around Physical damage. While some Physical DPS units, such as Eula, used to be S-tier in Genshin Impact, the addition of more powerful elemental damage characters has led many players to choose other options for the main DPS role.
The post also mentions that they hope some of the upcoming Cryo users, such as Capitano and Tsaritsa, could bring this element back to the meta. While Capitano could be joining the roster in the coming months, players will likely have to wait for the next major update and the arrival of the Sneznaya region to get Genshin Impact's Cryo Archon Tsaritsa.
