On September 10, the wildly popular gacha game Genshin Impact will be removed from the PlayStation Store on PS4. Genshin Impact first hit the scene in 2020 on mobile, PC, and PlayStation 4, and quickly became a massive commercial success. The record-breaking game still enjoys a massive audience across its various platforms to this day.
A year after Genshin Impact's initial launch, the game made its way to the PlayStation 5 with a native release, giving gamers on the platform the chance to play a proper PS5 version instead of relying on backward compatibility. Then, in 2024, Genshin Impact launched on Xbox consoles. A Genshin Impact Switch port was announced ages ago but still hasn't materialized at the time of this writing. At this point, it would be very surprising if the Genshin Impact Switch port ever sees the light of day, but it wouldn't be totally outlandish for the game to make its way to the Switch 2 at some point down the line.
Genshin Impact Leak Reveals New 5-Star Character for Version 6.1
A reliable source provides an overview of the next Genshin Impact character, set to join the playable cast as the 5-Star of Version 6.1.
When is Genshin Impact Leaving PS4?
- September 10, 2025 - Removal from PlayStation Store
- February 25, 2026 - In-game purchases removed
- April 8, 2026 - End of PS4 support
But while Genshin Impact has continued to expand its horizons, it is officially closing the door on one platform where it originated. Genshin Impact will be leaving the PS4 PlayStation Store on September 10. At that point, anyone that has never downloaded Genshin Impact on PS4 before will not be able to do so. The good news is that Genshin Impact will still be playable on PS4 after it's removed from the console's PlayStation Store, though fans should brace themselves for more changes. Genshin Impact's PS4 removal on September 10 marks the end of an era for the game, but it's really just the tip of the iceberg.
On February 25, 2026, Genshin Impact players on PS4 will no longer be able to purchase the game's microtransactions. Since Genshin Impact is a free-to-play gacha game, microtransactions are a big part of the experience. This will effectively freeze Genshin Impact PS4 players out of being able to play the game at the same capacity as those on other platforms. It will become significantly more difficult for PS4 gamers to get characters and other items that they want.
And then, on April 8, 2026, Genshin Impact on PS4 will stop receiving updates and players will no longer be able to log into the game on the platform. Needless to say, those that have yet to bind other login methods to their account should be sure to do so. It's also highly encouraged that Genshin Impact players on PS4 make plans to migrate to another platform — whether that be PS5 or something else — before the shutdown occurs. But while there are more devastating developments for Genshin Impact on PS4 on the horizon, the game's demise on the platform begins September 10 when it's removed from the PlayStation Store.
