Ascension |

Though she's only a small sleepy child, Genshin Impact's Sayu is a powerful ninja that has been blessed with an Anemo Vision. Despite her small stature, she also wields a massive claymore in battle, making her quite the interesting character and an important member of the Shuumatsuban — a secretive ninja organization under the Yashiro Commission.
Players planning to level up Sayu and maximize her combat potential will need quite a few materials, both for ascending her and upgrading her talents. Here's a full breakdown of everything needed for Sayu's ascension and talent upgrades.

Where to Find Sayu's Ascension and Talent Materials
Gemstones - Where to Find Vayuda Turquoise
The elemental stone used by all Anemo characters in their ascension is Vayuda Turquoise. This gem, like the other elemental stones, can be obtained in a variety of ways, but the bulk of it will likely come from defeating bosses and trounce challenges. These are the bosses and trounce battles that can reward Vayuda Turquoise:
- Anemo Hypostasis
- Maguu Kenki
- Algorithm of Semi-Intransient Matrix of Overseer Network
- Setekh Wenut
- Icewind Suite - Coppelia
- Solitary Suanni
- Tenebrous Papilla
- Dvalin (Confront Stormterror)
- Scaramouche (Joururi Workshop)
For a full list of methods for obtaining Vayuda Turquoise, check this guide:

Ascending an Anemo character? They'll need some Vayuda Turquoise — here's where to find it.
Enemy Drop - Where to Find Whopperflower Nectar
Whopperflowers are found basically anywhere in Teyvat. Travelers who are having trouble need only to check their Adventurer Handbook's "Enemies" section, from which they can track Whopperflowers down.
The higher the Whopperflower's level, the better its material drops can be, as follows:
|
Enemy Level |
Possible Drops |
|---|---|
|
Any |
Whopperflower Nectar |
|
40+ |
Shimmering Nectar |
|
60+ |
Energy Nectar |
There are some good farming routes available for Whopperflowers. Check out this guide:
Genshin Impact: Whopperflower Locations
Whopperflowers are sneaky enemies in Genshin Impact that often disguise themselves as a common plant.
Boss Drop - How to Get Marionette Core
There are only two characters that use Marionette Cores in their ascension: Kazuha and Sayu. Interestingly, they're both Anemo characters.
This boss drop can be obtained by paying 40 Resin after defeating the Maguu Kenki. This strange animatronic boss is found in Inazuma, specifically on Yashiori Isand. It's wise to finish the Orobashi's Legacy questline before spending much time on Yashiori Island, as there is some extreme weather before the questline is completed. This can make the Maguu Kenki fight much harder.
Genshin Impact: How To Find And Defeat The Maguu Kenki
Maguu Kenki is one of the most mysterious of Genshin Impact's many bosses — a silent samurai automaton that battles anyone who comes near.
Local Specialty - Where to Find Crystal Marrow
Crystal Marrow is a strange ore that forms as a result of the Tatarigami energy, which itself is a product of Orobashi's remains. As a result, it can be found on Yashiori Island, most notably around Orobashi's bones. However, some Crystal Marrow deposits can be found by the Mikage Furnace on Tatarasuna as well.
Unfortunately, no shops sell Crystal Marrow, so those attempting to ascend Sayu will need to harvest all of it in the wild.
Genshin Impact: Crystal Marrow Locations
Crystal Marrows is a material that can be used to level up characters in Genshin Impact.
Talent Books - Light
The Inazuma talent books that Sayu uses is the Light series. These books can be obtained mainly by defeating the Violet Court domain on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Genshin Impact: Every Domain Schedule
Knowing the schedule for some of Genshin Impact's Domains can help players collect certain items relatively painlessly.
Trounce Materials - Gilded Scale
Despite being from Inazuma, Sayu needs a Liyue trounce material to ascend. Namely, she'll use one of Azhdaha's drops, the Gilded Scale. Other Azhdaha drops, the Bloodjade Branch and the Dragon Lord's Crown, can be converted into Gilded Scales with some Dream Solvent and a crafting bench.
Genshin Impact: Beneath The Dragon Queller Guide
Azhdaha is a weekly boss in Genshin Impact that can easily be countered with a shielder in the team.
