Summary
- Signora's possible return could change the game forever, breaking the tradition of letting the dead stay dead in Genshin Impact.
- If Signora is resurrected, it could open the door for more deceased characters to come back, potentially trivializing the impact of death in the game.
- Bringing back characters like Signora or Tomo could cheapen the emotional impact of their deaths, altering the stakes and storytelling in Genshin Impact.
In Genshin Impact, the Fatui Harbingers represent a powerful threat to both Teyvat and the Traveler. The first encounter players had with these enigmatic characters was La Signora, The Fair Lady, forcibly taking Venti's Gnosis from him. Signora continued to cause chaos across Liyue and Inazuma until her execution by the Raiden Shogun. Despite her defeat seeming final (she was literally disintegrated by the Musuo no Hitotachi), rumors persist about her possible revival.
If Signora were resurrected, Genshin Impact would never be the same. The game has never given in to popular demands to bring characters back from the dead and has always let the dead stay dead. Breaking this tradition would open the door to many previously mentioned, and definitely deceased, characters coming into play. Death wouldn't feel so final knowing that resurrection is possible.
Crimson Witch of Embers Signora's Hopeful Return
The most recent rumors involving the resurrection of La Signora come from leaker Little Teyvat. According to them, "Signora has quite a few more episodes in the future." Within the Genshin Impact community, Signora has always been a likely candidate for a return, considering her history, design, and impact on players.
Rosalyne-Kruzchka Lohefalter
Signora's real name is Rosalyne-Kruzchka Lohefalter. Before tragedy struck, she was a woman from Mondstadt who was in love with a man called Rostam. She and her love were separated when she was accepted into the Sumeru Akademiya. While she was away, the Cataclysm struck and monsters killed Rostam. Upon her return to Mondstadt, she harnessed her rage and grief to become the now legendary Crimson Witch of Flames. This incredible Pyro power took away her humanity and is likely the reason why she was able to live as a beautiful young woman for the past 500 years.
The artifact set also called the Crimson Witch of Flames were once items touched and/or owned by the Crimson Witch of Flames "who once dreamt of burning away all the demons in the world." The descriptions of these artifacts tell Rosalyne-Kruzchka Lohefalter's story.
The Eighth Fatui Harbinger
Signora didn't become Signora until she was recruited by the Fatui's leader, Pierro. He gave her a Cryo Delusion that calmed the flames that consumed her, and so she became the cold, calculating woman that players came to know. Given her design—a catalyst floating beside her—players expected this character to eventually become playable in the same way that Childe, also a Fatui Harbinger, was made into a 5-star unit. The newest update will also make Arlecchino, the Fourth Fatui Harbinger, a playable character. This begs the question as to why Signora was left out.
Resurrections Could Trivialize Characters in Genshin Impact
All the playable characters in Genshin Impact are alive and well in the current timeline of the game. To make an exception for Signora would likely bring about suggestions that other characters known to be long gone be made into playable units.
Kazuha's friend, dubbed "Tomo" by the community, is one example of a deceased character whom players would be excited to spend their Wishes on. His death at the hands of the Raiden Shogun was a key point in the whole of the story of the Traveler's time in Inazuma. To undo this defeat would perhaps cheapen the emotional impact it had on Kazuha, the Traveler, and the players.
There is also the question of how Signora would be brought back to life. The next stop on the Traveler's journey is Natlan, where the Pyro Archon resides. Signora's deep connection to the element of flames could somehow come into play in this region. It's also possible, however, that Signora's "future episodes" instead refer to someone else taking up the mantle of the Crimson Witch of Flames and thus resurrecting her memory.
As it is, these rumors of a revival are just rumors. Genshin Impact hasn't brought any characters back from the dead yet. To do so would lower the stakes: knowing that a character can be resurrected takes away the finality of death and makes a defeat like Signora's or Tomo's less emotional. Players would be left to wonder why some characters got revived while others (Xiao's fellow Yaksha, for example) were not. The game would literally change, and perhaps not for the better.
