Similar to most RPGs in the market, Genshin Impact has its own unique style of gameplay and terminology to keep players on their toes. Some of these terms may be familiar, but for new players trying out the game, they can be a little difficult to understand at first.

Find out where to find and how to farm mora fast and efficiently through Genshin Impact's Blossoms of Wealth Ley Line Outcrop event.
The most important thing Genshin Impact players should know is that every character has a different ability and way in which they use their skills. These combat talents also differ depending on the elements assigned to each character, so depending on what you choose to get, they will affect the reactions you hope to achieve.
What Is An Elemental Skill In Genshin Impact?
Aside from the basic attack and charged attack patterns that every Genshin Impact character has, they also have additional skills. One such skill is called the Elemental Skill purely due to the fact that it always deals elemental damage. There are seven elements in Genshin Impact, and each character’s elemental skill will deal a certain amount of damage depending on how it’s used.
Each elemental skill has a cooldown period, which means once you click on it and use it, you need to wait a certain amount of time before you can use it again. Some characters have elemental skills that can be used more than once, like Diluc and Fischl, whereas some have charges to their elemental skill, like Xiao.
Charges are a little different because that means the elemental skills can be used multiple times, one after the other.
Furthermore, the usage of the elemental skills varies, as some characters have different abilities when you either tap the elemental skill or hold it down to use. One specific example is Zhongli, whose shield only activates when you hold down on the elemental skill. The best thing about elemental skill damage is that it creates Energy when fighting, and this is a much-needed attribute, as the Elemental Particles can help regenerate your skills to use once the cooldown ends.
What Is Elemental Burst In Genshin Impact?
The elemental burst, more commonly known as the ‘Ultimate’ by the community, is a significantly stronger method for characters to deal elemental damage. Once again, each character's elemental burst depends on their corresponding elemental and style, and like the elemental skill, it also has a cooldown. Most of the characters have set cooldowns, but these can be amended depending on the constellations obtained and the artifacts placed.
Players can view these cooldowns on the icons at the bottom right of the screen and watch as each one charges up before it’s ready for use.

What Are Passive Talents In Genshin Impact?
Passive talents are an additional talent that every Genshin Impact character has. They add special effects to the character itself or the entire party. There are four types of passives and here’s what each of them does:
- 1st Ascension Passive - if players head to the talent menu of their respective characters, they will be able to see the 1st ascension passive that can be unlocked after raising the character to Level 20.
- 4th Ascension Passive - these passives are unlocked at Character Level 60, and they usually include an improvement to the combat mechanics of said character.
- Utility Passive - these are basic exploration talents that certain characters have and are only privy to their respective regions. This can range from cooking bonuses, to exploration bonuses, and crafting bonuses.
- Night Realm’s Gift Passive - these passives are only limited to Natlan characters and work best in Natlan itself because of their respective Nightsoul Blessing.
Genshin Impact players may also be able to notice the active passive on a character when it’s used through any special effects, so just head to the talent screen to read all the character's talents and gain a better idea on how each one works.
Talent Skill Priorities In Genshin Impact
When it comes to leveling up your characters' Talents in the Ascension tab, each skill level depends on the character. If you’re using a character that deals more Normal Attack Damage, make sure to make their first Skill a priority when leveling up. The same goes for a character that deals more damage when in their Elemental Burst stage. Moreover, things have become easier for new players, as simply going to the Talent menu and clicking on the Priority Overview menu at the top right of the screen will allow you to see data that has been collected for each character. There will be recommendations for each one, and you can just follow that for any help.
