Genshin Impact is set to release for the Xbox Series X/S with the launch of Version 5.2, but players aren't exactly thrilled about the game's 100GB file size. While Genshin Impact was designed with mobile devices in mind, the game has accrued plenty of fans on PC and PlayStation as well. Its scope is vast and its open world continues to grow as more corners of Teyvat become accessible to the Traveler and their floating sidekick, Paimon.
However, this ambitious open world comes at a cost. What was once Mondstadt and Liyue in Genshin Impact has grown to encompass six unique regions, each boasting hundreds of hours of content for the Traveler to explore. Given that this content is evergreen and permanently available to Genshin Impact players, it requires a significant amount of storage. While the developers have worked hard to optimize the size of the game on mobile devices, Genshin Impact still takes up more than 30 GB of space.
Xbox players can preload Genshin Impact ahead of its launch on November 20, 2024. However, the Xbox version of the game is identical to the PC version, and as a result, its file size is no less than 100 GB. This notably comes with improved graphics, as many Genshin Impact players have noted that the game's environments look particularly stunning on PC and consoles. Though the world of Teyvat is breathtaking, not every Xbox user is eager to download the game, and players such as Reddit user imitzFinn have warned the Xbox subreddit about Genshin Impact's daunting file size. While many comments are positive about the game itself, a fair few players are nonetheless feeling apprehensive.

Xbox players who decide to give Genshin Impact a try can expect to find plenty of content to sink their teeth into. The game boasts a lengthy main quest, 90 characters with unique playstyles, fishing, housing, a card game, and over six thousand treasure chests scattered across its open world. Obtaining playable characters in Genshin Impact is done by spending Wishes on the Event Banner, which rotates featured characters every three weeks. Wishes can be awarded directly or purchased with Primogems, which are in turn obtained by completing quests, opening treasure chests, or conquering challenges. While most content in the game can be cleared with a wide selection of teams, Genshin Impact emphasizes synergy and character building as the keys to victory.
Version 5.2 launches with a map expansion for Natlan, the latest region added to Genshin Impact. Two new playable characters are set to join the cast: Ororon, a 4-Star Electro Bow user, and Chasca, a 5-Star Anemo Bow user. However, newcomers to Teyvat should keep an eye out for the Event Banners in the second half of Version 5.2, as they will feature Neuvillete and Zhongli, two of the most popular Genshin Impact characters. While the file size of Genshin Impact is unfortunate, especially for the Xbox Series S, the content available to players justifies it.
