Xianyun is a character that has been in Genshin Impact since release, but under a different persona: Cloud Retainer! That's right — Xianyun is the human form of everyone's favourite bird adeptus, and she finally became a playable character in Version 4.4. She uses a catalyst alongside her Anemo powers, with a kit that allows her to both heal and deliver powerful plunging attacks.

Those players who want to add Cloud Retainer's human persona to their team will likely want to upgrade her talents and ascend her. Doing so will require all the materials listed here.

Xianyun Ascension Items

Xianyun's ascension materials almost all match in a beautiful way. She'll need some wispy Cloudseam Scales from the Solitary Suanni, some turquoise Clearwater Jade from around Chenyu Vale, and of course, since she's an Anemo character, she'll need the beautiful blue Vayuda Turquoise gems.

Gemstones - Where to Find Vayuda Turquoise

All Anemo characters, whether they carry a Vision or not, use Vayuda Turquoise in their ascension, and Xianyun is no exception. While it can be obtained in a few ways, most of it will come from farming bosses who can drop it, which include the following:

Local Specialty - Clearwater Jade Locations

Chenyu Vale, the long-awaited expansion of Liyue, released at the same time as Xianyun herself. In this region, Clearwater Jade can be farmed, which is the local specialty that she'll need to ascend. It's dotted around the area, with most of it appearing on the southern mountain.

Enemy Drop - Where to Find Samachurl Scrolls

Xianyun joins Qiqi, Cyno, Yoimiya, and others in using Samachurl Scrolls for her ascension. Samachurls are found pretty much everywhere in Teyvat, but players should note that they need to be higher levels to drop better materials:

Any level: Divining Scroll
Level 40+: Sealed Scroll
Level 60+: Forbidden Curse Scroll

Boss Drop - How to Get Cloudseam Scale

Releasing alongside Xianyun in Version 4.4 is a boss named the Solitary Suanni. This boss is an ancient mystal creature in Chenyu Vale, shrouded by the mysterious power of the Adepti. It's the inspiration for the Wushu Dance tradition in Liyue, too!

Defeating this boss will reward players with Cloudseam Scales, which are the unique boss material Xianyun needs to ascend.

Talent Books - Gold

The Gold series of talent books are used by a variety of Liyue characters, including Zhongli, Xinyan, Xingqiu, Beidou, Yanfei, and Baizhu. Now, Xianyun joins that list, utilizing the series in her talent upgrades. These books can be obtained primarily from the Taishan Mansion talent domain on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Trounce Materials - Lightless Eye of the Maelstrom

These days, a character's trounce material seems to always come from the most recently released trounce challenge. As such, Xianyun will need a drop from the All-Devouring Narwhal fight in Fontaine. Defeat this boss in the Shadow of Another World trounce domain to potentially claim Lightless Eye of the Maelstrom, which is needed to upgrade her talents.
