Zhongli is easily one of the best Genshin Impact characters. He’s highly favored for the utility provided by his shield, where players can go berserk on enemies without taking any damage for pretty much the whole fight.
What makes Zhongli’s shield so good in Genshin Impact, is the ability to reduce enemies’ resistance to all Elements, even Physical. This is massive because Zhongli can also help activate the Geo Resonance, which will further increase the active units’ DMG by 15%.
Updated March 13, 2023, by Nahda Nabiilah: Although
Dehya was recently released with a new mechanic called mitigation, it doesn't seem like Zhongli's viability is going to die soon. Even with opponents that ignore shields like Rifthound's Corrosion, Zhongli remains one of the top meta characters in Genshin Impact, which shows the significance of his kit. After getting several reruns, it's no surprise if the Geo Archon gets another in the foreseeable future. Therefore, players who are considering getting his upgrades should know the value of each Zhongli Constellation, which will be explained in this guide.
Is Getting Zhongli Constellations Worth It In Genshin Impact?
None of Zhongli’s constellations are a game-changing in Genshin Impact. Of course, his upgrades increase his utility, but it’s not good enough to deserve the precious Primogems people need to spend for his Constellations. Therefore, players should only pull for Zhongli if they don’t already have him.
C1 - Rock, the Backbone of Earth
- Constellation effect: Increases the maximum number of Stone Steles created by Zhongli’s Elemental Skill that can exist at the same time to 2.
- Importance: Low
C1
Zhongli can now place a second Stone Steles on the field. The only situation where this effect is useful is when Zhongli is equipped with the 4-Tenacity of the Millelith artifacts set. A second Stele will allow his skill to cover more area and keep Tenacity's effect activated more frequently.
C2 - Stone, the Cradle of Jade
- Constellation effect: Zhongli’s Elemental Burst grants nearby characters on the field a shield.
- Importance: High in Co-op, Medium in single-player
After casting his Elemental Burst in Genshin Impact, C2 Zhongli provides himself with a shield and can shield other players during Co-op. Zhongli's C2 effect adds more utility to his gameplay, as players can now have more access to his already 100% uptime shield. In co-op mode, players matched with a C2 Zhongli will benefit the most from this Constellation.
C3 - Jade, Shimmering through Darkness
- Constellation effect: Increases the Level of Dominus Lapidis by 3. The maximum upgrade level is 15.
- Importance: High
While Zhongli C3 doesn’t add any effect or enhance one, it does offer a buff for his core mechanic. As the best shielder in Genshin Impact, it’s perfect for Zhongli to get an extra three levels on his Elemental Skill, which increases his shield's scaling.
C4 - Topaz, Unbreakable and Fearless
- Constellation effect: Increases Zhongli’s Elemental Burst AoE by 20% and increases the duration of its petrification effect by 2s (From 4s to 6s).
- Importance: Medium
Having an extra 20% AoE and 2s petrification can be highly useful, but it’s not worth aiming for this constellation.
C5 - Chrysos, Bounty of Dominator
- Constellation effect: Increases the Level of Planet Befall by 3. The maximum upgrade level is 15.
- Importance: Low
It’s always good to get extra DMG on Zhongli’s Elemental Burst, but not when it cost that amount of Constellations. C5 Zhongli doesn’t add too much to his kit in Genshin Impact.
C6 - Chrysos, Bounty of Dominator
- Constellation effect: When Zhongli’s shield takes damage, 40% of that incoming damage is converted to HP for the current character. A single instance of regeneration cannot exceed 8% of that character's Max HP.
- Importance: Medium
As an Archon, it’s so underwhelming that the C6 Zhongli effect is making him a minor healer in Genshin Impact. While this Zhongli Constellation makes him a unique unit, it does not add much utility. To start, players don’t need a healer when Zhongli is around as his shield is enough to block all incoming DMG with ease. However, there are some scenarios that force a healer on the team, like fighting Rifthounds and their corrosion effect. With Zhongli's sixth constellation, the team will not need a healer, since he will be a minor healer as well.
Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
