Writing on his Not A Blog website in 2023, George R.R. Martin talked about his favorite episodes on television in response to Vanity Fair's comprehensive list of compelling shows from the last 25 years. The catalog of well-known and beloved shows obviously included Game of Thrones, specifically episode 2 of season 9 titled "Blackwater", which Martin scripted for the show, but his personal favorite was "The Lion and the Rose". However, it certainly wasn't his favorite episode he has ever seen, as he revealed that the final episode of Six Feet Under took the award for the best. Even though he expressed that he didn't love the entire series as much as Rome, Deadwood, or Fargo, Six Feet Under's "last episode was far and away the best finale in the entire history of television," and he couldn't "imagine how anyone could possibly do better."
