Quests in Ghost of Tsushima are often straightforward affairs, usually some variation of Jin finding and eliminating a group of Mongols or Bandits to avenge a civilian or help his comrades. Some side quests, however, are a bit more involved, weaving in tales of mythic legends into quest objectives at every turn. Whispers in the Woods is one such quest, tasking Jin with investigating the goings-on of a misty forest that hides many secrets.

Bamboo Strikes are the best way to increase Jin's Resolve in Ghost of Tsushima. On Iki Island, there are three for players to find.

How to Start Whispers in the Woods

To start Whispers in the Woods in Ghost of Tsushima, players will need to find and talk to a Peasant storyteller sitting just outside a bamboo forest. Hearing the rumor about the haunted forest in one of the Survivor Camps or at the Golden Temple will highlight the storyteller’s location on the map. Still, he can be encountered even without this quest marker.

Following the golden bird while in the area will guide players towards the storyteller.

Search for Spirits in the Forest

Enter the bamboo forest directly behind the peasant, and you’ll immediately be able to see yellow paper lanterns lighting the path ahead (pictured above). Following the lantern path will bring Jin face to face with an abandoned house. Enter and look for clues. There are three scrolls Jin needs to read to progress the quest.

  1. 1st Scroll: Directly in front of the broken door.
  2. 2nd Scroll: Next to the fireplace
  3. 3rd Scroll: Left of the open door leading back outside.

Exit the house and follow the lanterns towards the back until you find a corpse behind a large rock that can be examined. Next, examine the tatami mat next to the corpse. A dog will appear out of the shadows to attack Jin. Defeat the dog and interact with the Inari shrine to mark the Fox Den complete.

Continue past the corpse and look for a lone lantern next to a crack in the stone. Squeeze through the crack to exit the other side.

Look for the light of a small campfire (pictured above) on the far side of the forest. Investigate the campsite to discover a set of footprints leading away from another corpse. The dirt path is marked by bodies hanging from the bamboo poles on either side. Follow the path, and you’ll encounter a group of bandits at another campsite.

If players find the second campsite before the first one, there will be no one there.

Decide the Bandit’s Fate

Defeat the bandits either by assassinating or triggering a Standoff with them head-on. Once Jin cuts down all enemies until only one is left, a new objective will appear: Decide the Bandit’s Fate.

The choice here is to either let the bandit go to spread the story of the vengeful samurai or kill him as punishment for his actions. Both choices lead to the same outcome; there is no difference in what you do here. Kill the bandit or spare him; the forest will be rid of them regardless.
