- Erika Ishii will be voicing the lead character Atsu in Ghost of Yotei.
- Atsu will make her debut in Astro Bot's July 2025 update, before the release of Ghost of Yotei in October.
- Ishii had an emotional reaction to Atsu being in Astro Bot.
Ghost of Yotei actress Erika Ishii had an emotional reaction while watching this week’s PlayStation State of Play livestream, but it wasn’t for their own game. Ishii has lent their voice to titles like Apex Legends, The Last of Us Part 2, and Mortal Kombat 1 (where they played Sektor), and has even appeared in several gaming-based web shows like Critical Role. Their latest video game performance will be in the upcoming Ghost of Yotei, where they play the new lead character Atsu - a wandering ronin out to avenge the murder of her family at the hands of a masked group of killers named the Yotei Six.
Ghost of Yotei will retain much of the open-world gameplay and samurai combat that made Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima a massive success, along with a selection of new weapons, a bounty system that will allow Atsu to earn money by taking out high-profile targets, and more narrative choices than the previous game. Sucker Punch briefly took the stage at the June 4 PlayStation State of Play livestream to announce that a deeper look at Ghost of Yotei is coming in July.
Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2 Could Be Fighting for the Same Crowns at The Game Awards
Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2 could share the same spotlight later this year, especially if both dominate key categories at The Game Awards.
While Erika Ishii wasn’t physically in attendance during the recent PlayStation State of Play livestream, they were watching when an announcement from a completely different game took them by surprise. They posted this reaction to TikTok, where they cried out in excitement when it was revealed that Atsu will be added to Astro Bot in its upcoming July 2025 update. Ishii said that Astro Bot was their personal game of the year for 2024, and that they had completed all its content by the time they found out that Atsu was going to be a part of it soon.
Atsu’s Actor Is Excited For Her To Be In Astro Bot
Astro Bot features cameo appearances from a wide range of PlayStation characters, including Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima. Thanks to its fun gameplay and celebration of PlayStation’s storied gaming history, Astro Bot was a smash hit when it launched last September and even won multiple awards at The Game Awards 2024 - including the coveted Game of the Year award.
Because Ghost of Yotei isn’t coming until October 2, Astro Bot's July 2025 update will technically be Atsu's gaming debut, and Erika Ishii couldn't be happier to be part of a game that she enjoyed so much. In addition to more PlayStation cameos, Astro Bot’s next update will add five new challenge levels to test players’ platforming skills. An updated Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense controller is also being released later this year.
