Some new details about Sucker Punch's upcoming open-world game, Ghost of Yotei, have surfaced online. Sucker Punch hasn't said much about Ghost of Yotei since the game was announced last year, but this new update provides a slightly clearer picture of what to expect regarding its story, gameplay elements, and more.

When Ghost of Yotei was first unveiled, all that was known about the game's narrative was that it would be set more than 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima. Rather bravely, Ghost of Yotei also forgoes Jin Sakai, the widely-admired protagonist of Ghost of Tsushima, and instead aims the spotlight at a new character named Atsu. The time period jump and protagonist shift incited some skepticism but left many other fans intrigued, who have been aching to learn more about Ghost of Yotei.

Ghost of Yotei will be the first follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima, and if all goes well, it could be the start of something special.

While it seems Sucker Punch is still some time away from showing off a new trailer for Ghost of Yotei, fans have spotted a handful of fresh details about the game in its official PlayStation website section. According to the new info, Ghost of Yotei will revolve around Atsu's personal mission for revenge, where she's "filled with fury and determination" to "hunt down those responsible for the death of her family." To fund this quest for retribution, Atsu will take on "every odd job and bounty" she comes across, and it'll be up to players to decide how she "fights, survives, and evolves the legend of the Ghost."

Ghost of Yotei's Atsu Will Be on a Mission to "Hunt Down" Her Family's Murderers

Moreover, Ghost of Yotei will introduce new weapons that were absent from Ghost of Tsushima, such as the odachi (a giant samurai sword), kusarigama (a sickle attached to a chain), and dual katanas. Sucker Punch also shed a tiny bit more light on the visual improvements Ghost of Yotei brings for PS5 users, such as "massive sightlines" that provide an expansive look at the environment, skies full of "twinkling stars and auroras," and vegetation that "sways believably in the wind." There's good news for PS5 Pro adopters as well, with the beefier mid-generation machine achieving enhanced performance and visuals in Ghost of Yotei.

In terms of gameplay and graphical fidelity, Ghost of Yotei looks to be a veritable step-up from Ghost of Tsushima. However, some have complained about the revenge angle in Ghost of Yotei's narrative, as Ghost of Tsushima explored very similar themes. In fact, Lady Masako's questline in Ghost of Tsushima featured her going on a crusade against those who murdered her family, which doesn't stray too far from Ghost of Yotei's aforementioned story synopsis. On the flip side, Sucker Punch could subvert expectations around Ghost of Yotei's revenge themes and deliver a wholly unique story, but only time will tell how things pan out.
