Ghost of Yotei’s open-world map is quite large, and exploring it fully can take a lot of time, depending on how thorough players are. Those familiar with Ghost of Tsushima, the previous game in the franchise, might remember that it allowed players to completely lift the fog of war in a certain area of the map by clearing all Mongol camps in the region.

Some may be wondering if Ghost of Yotei has a similar mechanic that allows players to reveal certain sections of the map without physically going through the entire area. Here’s the breakdown.

Things to Do First in Ghost of Yotei

Here's a comprehensive list of things you should do first in Ghost of Yotei to ensure you're off to the most effective start possible.

How to Reveal the Map in Ghost of Yotei

using spyglass in ghost of yotei

There are three ways to reveal the map in Ghost of Yotei:

  • Walking on foot or riding on horseback through the world and experiencing what it has to offer firsthand.
  • Using Spyglass/Binoculars to find points of interest, marking their location on the world map screen.
  • Using Traveler’s Maps to reveal the immediate area surrounding points of interest like Hot Springs, Altars of Reflection, and more.

Unlike Ghost of Tsushima, where players could lift the fog of war from an entire region after completing a set of objectives, there is no mechanic like that in Ghost of Yotei. The equivalent of Mongol camps in this game are Saito’s camps. However, liberating them does not reveal objectives in the region.

After players have completed The Old Inn tale in Ghost of Yotei, Isaburo the Cartographer will become available as a vendor. He sells Traveler’s Maps in exchange for coins at a variable price. Additionally, friendly NPCs in the world sometimes give hints about undiscovered points of interest, which translate to Traveler’s Maps you can use.

You can check if you have any unused Traveler’s Maps available by opening the map and looking at the left edge of the screen. Available maps will be displayed here.

  • Open the map screen by pressing the touchpad.
  • Select the Traveler’s Map by pressing Square.
  • Use Left Stick to find the location on the map’s outline that corresponds to the Traveler’s Map and press X to place it.

Use identifiable frames of reference, like the shape of a river or the borders of the region, to find the correct spot.
