According to a recent rumor, Ghost of Yotei's sales may have already surpassed those of Assassin's Creed Shadows, despite it being less than a month old. The rumor, based on a report by The Alinea Insight, suggests Ghost of Yotei's sales numbers have exceeded Assassin's Creed Shadows on PS5 by an estimated tenth of a million.
Ghost of Yotei and Assassin's Creed Shadows have been in a rivalry of sorts for quite some time, which has primarily been fueled by their shared setting and historical appeal. More recently, however, their shared gameplay elements have naturally sparked conversation as to which game is better. As such, the possibility that Ghost of Yotei's sales have now exceeded Assassin's Creed Shadows' PS5 numbers in a matter of weeks only adds fuel to the competitive fire.
Ghost of Yotei Has Reportedly Already Outsold Assassin's Creed Shadows on PS5
According to a recent study by The Alinea Insight, as reported by GamingBolt, Ghost of Yotei has already outsold Assassin's Creed Shadows on PS5 by roughly 100,000 copies. What makes these potential numbers such a big win for Ghost of Yotei, though, is the fact that it has only been out for three weeks, whereas Assassin's Creed Shadows is now over seven months old.

Of course, context is everything in a case like this, as it's important to note that these reported numbers only account for the PS5 sales of Assassin's Creed Shadows and therefore exclude its PC and Xbox Series X|S sales. Even so, Ghost of Yotei is a PS5 exclusive, so putting only Assassin's Creed Shadows' PS5 sales numbers up against it helps keep the playing field level.
Assuming Ghost of Yotei will eventually be ported to PC just as its predecessor was, this would presumably only boost its numbers even more, potentially bringing it closer to the cross-platform sales of Assassin's Creed Shadows — which The Alinea Insight estimates to be just over 4.3 million at the time of writing. Furthermore, Ghost of Yotei's legacy has really only just begun, with sales expected to continue, especially once its highly anticipated Legends mode launches in 2026.
Whether Ghost of Yotei emerges triumphant over its Feudal Japan rival in the end remains to be seen, but things are already looking promising for it, if The Alinea Insight's estimates are accurate. Assassin's Creed Shadows does have its Xbox Series X|S sales to help boost its numbers, but Ghost of Yotei could still prevail in the end.
