Sucker Punch's Ghost of Yotei is primed to be a worthy follow-up to 2020's Ghost of Tsushima, one of the most surprisingly fantastic games of that year. Still, not much is known about Ghost of Yotei at this time, other than that it takes place a few centuries after Tsushima, in the region of Hokkaido, Japan.

This state of affairs will presumably change over the course of 2025, as Sucker Punch and Sony ramp up marketing for the Tsushima sequel. The particulars of Ghost of Yotei's story and gameplay are eagerly anticipated by fans, and trailers, gameplay previews, and press releases will no doubt cover these elements. But in the modern age, there are other ways to promote a game, and considering Ghost of Tsushima's legacy, there might be one fitting, unconventional avenue for Sucker Punch to explore.

Sucker Punch Should Update Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Ahead of Ghost of Yotei's Release

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Remains Criminally Underrated

Available free of charge for those who own the base game, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends was the most welcome of surprises when it launched back in 2020. The multiplayer mode took the basics of the core single-player experience—simple but satisfying combat, character customization, and large-scale fights—and reframed them in a strong, impactful cooperative formula. It may not have reinvented the wheel, nor did it shoot to the top of the multiplayer game charts, but it managed to carve out a solid foothold for itself, becoming something of a cult classic.

For those who don't own Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends can be purchased separately for $19.99 USD.

Mythology and hard-hitting action mingle in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, allowing players to develop distinct classes and engage with the Tsushima design staples in a radically new, supernatural context. Having said that, perhaps its greatest shortcoming is sheer brevity: Legends lacks the depth and variety of content that helps other contemporary multiplayer games retain their relevance over the long-term. But if Sucker Punch were to remedy this content drought in 2025, it could satisfy the long-dedicated Legends playerbase. If the developer is willing, it could also prop up Ghost of Yotei in the process.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Could Be the Perfect Venue for Ghost of Yotei Promotion

If Sucker Punch were to update the Legends multiplayer mode with Yotei-related content, it could make for a clever and effective marketing campaign, one that actively engages the existing playerbase. Perhaps the developer could tease certain Yotei mechanics, weapons, or locations via Legends, using the multiplayer mode as a proprietary platform for advertising, while satisfying content-starved players at the same time. This could spark a particularly effective word-of-mouth marketing campaign, as the Ghost of Tsushima fanbase would actively seek out in-game information and share it among themselves. Such content would effectively be integrated advertisements that double as fun expansions to a beloved spin-off.

There's also the benefit of garnering good will with gaming audiences—a resource that is invaluable in the modern era. Naturally, players are already considerably excited about Ghost of Yotei, but endearing these consumers to the Ghost of Tsushima universe once again certainly couldn't hurt. Updating Legends would also help generate hype for the sequel because it would reinvigorate an existing fanbase, possibly leading to a resurgence of Ghost of Tsushima's popularity ahead of Yotei.

At the end of the day, Sucker Punch probably doesn't need too much help with promoting Ghost of Yotei; it's already well on its way to being one of the biggest releases of the year. But ingenuity and TLC paid to the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends community are solid goals to strive for in their own right. Clever cross-promotion would simply be an added benefit.
