After a month-long delay, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint has finally unveiled details surrounding its new in-game crossover with the Terminator franchise. In a short cinematic teaser, developer Ubisoft revealed a start date for the live event featuring the menacing machines.
With the release of the latest installment in the film series, The Terminator franchise has increased its presence in the video game industry. The robotic assassins previously showed up in Gears 5, and the iconic T-800 was added as a DLC character to Mortal Kombat 11. According to this new trailer, avid Ghost Recon players can look forward to facing down a formidable foe on January 29.
The short Ghost Recon: Breakpoint video opens on a wooded environment. The foreboding quiet of the scene is immediately interrupted by a crackle of electricity and the familiar effects that signal a Terminator's arrival in the present. The trailer ends with the electric bubble exploding and revealing The Terminator Live Event's release before cutting to black.
Although the trailer is short and provides little concrete information on the gameplay or narrative, avid Ghost Recon players have experienced previous tie-in events that might provide some insight into what Ubisoft might have in mind for the Breakpoint crossover. In Ghost Recon: Wildlands, for example, the developer allowed fans to face off against the fearsome Predator . The Predator utilized all its iconic weapons and tactics against players, and could be fought in both single and multiplayer modes. Considering how this event unfolded, it's likely that this new live event will follow a similar formula, and pit fans against the T-800 itself in a grueling fight to defeat it.
Despite its rocky and disappointing start, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint has continued to receive updates and improvements. Creating a live event with a new, challenging enemy shows Ubisoft's commitment to making Breakpoint a worthy successor to the games that came before it. While some players might enjoy the challenge of facing off against the Terminators, hopefully the developer can also integrate a gameplay element from its previous crossover and satisfy avid Terminator fans by allowing them to take control of the robots themselves in a PVP matchup.
Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
