Hideaki Sorachi's Gintama is among the most well-known anime series in the world. It has a loyal fanbase, and fans are always eagerly waiting for any new announcements pertaining to it. In a recent report, Gintama revealed the results of the 20th anniversary popularity poll.
A new key visual commemorating the popularity poll was also released. It consisted of characters who featured in the top 20. Gintama fans should also mark their calendars, as there will be a special exhibition from December 14, 2024, to January 17, 2025. The official YouTube account associated with the anime released a video in which fans can find the rankings along with the total votes that each character obtained.

These are all the characters who made it into the top 20. Sakata Gintoki, the main protagonist, took the top spot, which is hardly surprising. His compatriots, Kagura and Shinpachi, finished in sixth and eighth spots, respectively. Meanwhile, Gintoki's old friends Takasuki, Katsura, and Sakamoto all ended up in the top 10. Hijitaka and Okita from Shinsengumi occupied the second and fifth positions.
Gintama Anime Is Loved By Fans
Hideaki Sorachi's Gintama began serializing in the Weekly Shonen Jump in December 2003. It was supposed to end in 2018, but instead, it was transferred to Jump Giga. Gintama remained a part of the line-up for three issues. Subsequently, the manga was transferred to the Gintama app, where it ended in June 2019.
Gintama has sold over 74 million copies, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time. The first anime adaptation of Gintama was released in April 2006. It ran for 201 episodes, and it came to an end in March 2010.
In 2023, Gintama announced the anime adaptation of Class 3Z Ginpachi-sensei, a spin-off novel. It will be produced by Bandai Namco Pictures. Natsumi Higashida will be directing, while Makoto Moriwaki will be the chief director. Kazuyuki Fudeyasu and Mitei Mark II have been put in charge of the series composition. Shinji Takeuchi is serving as the character designer and the chief animation director. Class 3Z Ginpachi-sensei will be released in October 2025.
