Images of the canceled God of War multiplayer game have recently surfaced online. Originally developed by Bluepoint Games, the canceled God of War multiplayer project would likely have returned to Greece, as showcased in these new screenshots.
Back in January, Sony reportedly canceled two live-service games. One of these projects was an open-world military shooter developed by Bend Studio. The other was a God of War multiplayer game being developed by Bluepoint Games, a studio known for working on the Demon’s Souls remake.

Canceled God of War Multiplayer Game Would Have Been Set in Ancient Greece
Images shared with MP1ST have recently showcased some interesting details about the canceled God of War live service game. The 23 images shared with the media outlet seem to indicate that the game could have returned the God of War franchise to a Greek setting, as temples and artifacts that were clearly inspired by the region appear in the screenshots. In some pictures, it’s possible to see temple interiors, caves with huge pools of sulfur, and other environments, which all seem very large, likely to accommodate multiplayer action.
One interesting highlight was a place described by MP1ST as “Hades’ Armory.” While it’s unknown if Hades would actually be featured in the canceled game, the images seem to indicate that the location would be important, as it can be seen in two different states. In one, the area looks normal, while in the second “cursed” state, a red corrosion seems to have taken over the area, which could be some kind of gameplay mechanic. Unfortunately, with the multiplayer God of War project canceled, all gamers can do is speculate.
Despite this cancellation, multiple God of War games seem to be in development. A recent rumor has indicated that a God of War 2.5D Metroidvania could come in 2026, for example, which would feature Kratos' brother, Deimos, as its protagonist.
Most gamers will likely be eager to learn more about the next mainline entry in the God of War series, though. Recent rumors have indicated that the next mainline God of War could be set in Egypt. Fans have been excited to see the franchise go to Egypt for a while, and Santa Monica Studio even had plans to set God of War in the Mediterranean country in the past, which gives some credibility to the rumors. According to one of the rumors, Kratos will wield a curved Egyptian sword in the game, which may look like a scimitar or a kopesh. Obviously, none of this information is confirmed, so gamers should take it with a grain of salt.
