A new report stated that the upcoming God of War TV series, produced by Amazon and Sony, is set to begin in Vancouver in March 2026. The report also shared that casting for the God of War TV adaptation is currently in progress, meaning fans should not have to wait too much longer to find out who will portray Kratos and other characters in the show.

While the God of War TV series was first announced by Amazon in 2022, the project restarted development two years later following the departure of key staff. As part of the restart, Amazon and Sony brought in Ronald D. Moore to lead the show. Moore's previous works as a producer include shows like Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Battlestar Galactica, and Outlander. During a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Moore revealed that he was working on God of War TV scripts with Santa Monica Studio creative director Cory Barlog, who has been involved with the God of War video game franchise since its inception.

God of War Begins Filming in Early 2026

Months after revealing the script plans for God of War's small-screen adaptation, the project has taken a major step in its development. As reported by Nexus Point News, the God of War TV series is set to begin filming in March 2026 in Vancouver. Additionally, casting for the God of War series is underway, meaning fans could soon hear who will portray characters like Kratos and Atreus. While Amazon's God of War TV series will focus on the popular Norse saga, it is not expected to be a one-to-one retelling of the 2018 reboot, which in turn takes place years after Kratos' journey through Ancient Greece.

Given the plot of 2018's God of War, other Norse gods like Baldr, Freyja, and Mimir are expected to appear in the Amazon Prime TV series in some capacity. However, Santa Monica Studio's involvement in the Amazon Prime series is not the only potential God of War project on their docket. In late August 2025, a job posting for a combat designer lent credence to the idea that another God of War video game project may be in development. As of this writing, Santa Monica Studio has not announced its plans for the God of War video game series.
