MonsterVerse released its first movie, Godzilla, in 2014. It has since released three more Godzilla movies, including Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024). Legendary Pictures is treating fans with another film featuring the return of Godzilla and Kong in Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. However, some fans felt that one of the stars just spoiled it by revealing the villain.

Godzilla x Kong: Supernova could introduce another kaiju in the MonsterVerse and one that’s considered among the deadliest.
When the official title for the upcoming Godzilla movie was announced, many fans started to speculate what the story would be. Its title, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, seemingly suggests that the villain is from alien space, meaning it could feature SpaceGodzilla, a powerful villain from Japan's Toho Godzilla universe. While that remains unconfirmed, Supernova star Matthew Modine seemingly fueled the rumors by sharing photos many fans believed were about the upcoming film. Writer and podcaster Luis A. Mendez shared screenshots of Modine's posts on X. The posts were two photos originally shared by a Godzilla fan account, @GodzillaLets. One snap features two ladies with a subtitle that reads, "A terrible space monster is now approaching the Earth." The second picture is a poster from the movie Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla. The move raised eyebrows, with some accusing the actor of leaking the upcoming film's big bad and potentially the storyline. Mendez reacted, writing:

Could SpaceGodzilla Be The Villain Of Godzilla x Kong: Supernova?
SpaceGodzilla is one of the most commanding and iconic adversaries of Godzilla, alongside King Ghidorah and Destoroyah. What makes him formidable is the fact that he is a genetically mutated clone of Godzilla. He was created when Godzilla's DNA was sent into space, and the cosmic radiation mutated the kaiju's cells, giving life to SpaceGodzilla. He even beat Godzilla in their first encounter in Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla (1994), so the former needed help to defeat the latter. As for the comparison to Holland, that's given since Holland is considered the biggest spoiler in the MCU. The young actor has a history of sharing Marvel secrets before the studio officially announced them. For instance, he announced in a theater packed with fans that he is alive after Avengers: Infinity War. At the time, the audience had not watched the movie yet, but it was teased that many superheroes were doomed. Due to Holland's teasers, fans closely watch his posts and statements in interviews for possible Easter Eggs.
Modine may or may not be aware of how impactful his social media posts are, especially to eagle-eyed fans. While it was definitely a major spoiler, some might not take it that way because the upcoming film's official title, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, already gave away what fans could expect from the film.
