Polyphony Digital has announced the 1.48 update for Gran Turismo 7. The free update brings with it a host of fan-favorite cars from prior entries of the franchise to Gran Turismo 7, new World Circuit events, and more.
As part of PlayStation's top-selling racing franchise, Gran Turismo 7 has received free content updates at a steady cadence since its launch back in March 2022. Developer Polyphony Digital has added nearly 100 cars to the game compared to its initial state, as well as added some new tracks, although many fans believe the studio has been lacking in the latter. Regardless, the studio is dedicated to serving the game, while it silently works on the next entry in the Gran Turismo franchise as well.
It Takes Almost 300 Days for Gran Turismo 7 Developers to Make One of the Game's Cars
Polyphony Digital CEO and Gran Turismo 7 producer Kazunori Yamauchi shares that it takes almost 300 days to create a car from scratch.
The 1.48 update for Gran Turismo 7 features five classic cars that Gran Turismo veterans may recognize from prior games, namely the 1993 Honda Civic SiR II (EG), the legendary 1987 Nissan Skyline GTS-R (R31), the 1993 Volvo 240 SE Estate, the 2013 Volvo V40 T5 R-Design, and finally, the iconic Honda NSX GT500 race car from 2000. It's worth noting that the Volvo brand has officially made its debut in the game with update 1.48, much in the same vein as Skoda in Gran Turismo 7's previous 1.46 update. Update 1.48 will go live on Wednesday, May 29 at 11:00pm PST / May 30 at 7:00am BST.
Beyond the relatively generous addition of five cars, update 1.48 will also include a new Café Menu Book dubbed "Racers of the Japanese GT" which will be available to players level 48 and above and seemingly involve the aforementioned NSX GT500 race car. Polyphony has also added four new World Circuits events: Europe Sunday Cup 400 - Kyoto Driving Park: Yamagiwa, Japanese FF Challenge 450 - Autopolis International Racing Course: Short Course, Japanese FR Challenge 450 - Autodrome Lago Maggiore: West, and World Tour Car 800 - Circuit de Sainte-Croix: A.
While there are still no new tracks to be seen with Gran Turismo 7's latest 1.48 update, the addition of new manufacturers like Volvo and Skoda in recent memory is exciting for fans who demand more variety within the game's car list. Hopefully, Polyphony will continue this streak by adding highly-requested brands like Lotus and Koenigsegg in Gran Turismo 7's future updates, as well as more tracks. GT7 is one of the best PlayStation exclusives, and Polyphony's dedication has only made it better over the years.
